Rank every comic book film - where do the Spider-Man films fit in?

I mean I loved the 90's X-Men cartoon but I even love X-Men Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men. They just make for great cartoon content.

tbqh, I often don't even consider X-Men a part of the Marvel Universe. There are a lot of crossovers and such, sure... I just don't think X-Men mesh very well with the rest of the universe.

The number one reason why is as follows:
I read X-Men comics under the assumption that some day in the not too distant future EVERYONE will be special/super. And the story arcs often progress that way. But that TOTALLY takes away from the self-made heroes of science and magic in the MU. Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, Dr Strange. All the sudden become run of the mill again.

Don't get me wrong, its a great concept on its own, but I prefer to keep the worlds separate as much as I can.

I do agree with that a little bit. Makes most of these heroes feel... useless, or not that special. I still like to see Wolverine as part of the Marvel universe though. On his own, he is awesome IMO.

Oh most definitely Wolverine is the main qualm I have with disowning X-Men entirely. He always fits so snugly into Captain America's origin. Magneto and Phoenix are a couple others. Just phenomenal characters.

The list above is pretty solid, but in all honesty, anything after Spider-Man 1 is probably interchangeable as far as where they rank. I would; however, definitely call these my favorite CBMs. I'd put the rest of the movies I've seen into two simple groups(no particular order): movies that I either liked or disliked to varying degrees.

Whatever didn't make the cut I either haven't seen, am indifferent towards, or forgot about entirely. Although Spider-Man 2 is up there on my list, I have to agree with the sentiment echoed earlier in that I'm still waiting for that definitive Spider-Man movie. I certainly hope that the next film is it, but I'm not holding my breath since TASM was absolute garbage. Iron Man isn't even one of my favorite characters, but the film was executed far too well for me to not put it at the top of my list; it was that rare film that transcends genre IMO.

There are so many stories that haven't been explored in the Raimi films that need to be put on screen. While I know we won't see a marriage in this trilogy, I'm sure it will happen eventually in further films. The reason why I say TASM has more potential than SM1 is because it really setup future films very well, while the other just concluded on its own, and no sequel would have been necessary.

But my point is that so many of the main Spidey stories revolve around the Legacy of the Goblin. You really cannot do a series of Spidey movies without it. Then you also have the fact that they will one day WANT to do Venom again. So, if you have Green Goblin throwing love interests off of bridges, Harry Osborn getting crazed and angered with vengeance to one day become a Goblin of his very own and Eddie Brock turning into Venom at some point....

It all is going to hit a lot of the same story points Raimi did. Even Lizard, who I like, felt redundant in terms of overlapping how Raimi accurately adapted GG and not so accurately adapted Doc Ock...except, sigh, Doc Ock was a better Lizard than TASM's. I feel like when they finally embrace Peter vs. Norman in TASM3, even if it's better, the series going past that film will start seeming very similar to the Raimi movies. GG learns Spidey's identity and tortures him (sic), throws a love interest off a bridge (sic), dies (sic), leads to Harry wanting revenge on Spider-Man (sic), Harry at some point becomes a Goblin (sic) and at some point there will be Venom (sic).

Once Norman comes into the picture, it kind of writes itself. Though they can do it better. Though, I do not think they did the origin better.

How many ASM's are Webb and company expected to make? I remember Sony wanted Raimi for six films. I think he was going to bail after the fifth.

The only thing the Raimi films did with the Goblin was Harry trying to kill Peter, and all we get was a guy in a paintball mask.
