I'm gonna wait and see what price they set. Valve likes their customers to be able to afford their products to the point that makes peoples jaw drops of what they think it should cost. We'll just have to wait and see what price they set.

Yup, HL3 will be a "system" seller. It'll probably come preinstalled or whatever.

I also don't think next gen will be more than 500. They can't.. Think what you want about the WiiU it kind of set the bench mark for pricing. Go much higher than 400 and they won't move much.

I'm not sure, when the next playstation and Xbox drop, they'll be looked at as ushering in the next gen and the wiiu will be looked at as outdated hardware. I'd assume MS or Sony could use that to set a price higher than what the wiiu is at now. Not saying they will, but I can almost forsee them making that argument. "Well the PS4 is a true next generation console which is why we have it priced at 399 and 499"

I would be shocked if they didn't. That's the smartest possible thing they could do.
I highly doubt Orbis or Durango will exceed $500. I think everyone learned a lesson from Sony's "599 US Dollars" disaster. I think it's more or less been established that $300 to $400 is the sweet spot for a brand new console.

If they do that, which they probably will, I can only imagine how freaking fast these things will sell. I had no interest in buying this Day One, but if it comes with Half-Life 3, you better bet your ass I'm buying it.

I'm not a PC gamer(I don't own a computer and use the web through game consoles&I Pad)and so I don't know how this stream thing works,Are there sites you go to and pay to download/stream games or what??
IF this thing is a Gaming PC that is able to hook up to a TV and work like a game console..Then it means I can play PC games such as the latest Knights of the Old Republic on my HD TV and use a game console type of controller? |

Are they flatout skipping HL2 Episode 3, then? I'm curious as to what Valve turns out. I watched some YT vids on the company; apparently they want to do something to make HL3 as different from HL2 as HL2 was from the first Half-Life.

Sony and Microsoft can't just depend on the hardcore...They need the casual gamer as well and 499-599 won't bring them in. 300-400 is the best over all price for a brand new console, I agree with you. They've proven that you can't get away with extreme pricing...No matter what the thing does. Hell, Sony only recently made up their loss from the 599 price tag, right? |

Also...I priced a brand new gaming rig that my buddy will be building for me if I decide to go that route.. It will ONLY be used for gaming... 689.99...Tack on the "Windows Tax" and we're looking at an extra 100 bucks.
Now, that doesn't seem bad for all the stuff's putting in it... Core i3 @ 3.2 ghz, 8gb Ram, 500 gb HDD and a Radeon 7850 GPU. He said he skimped at bit on the CPU to fit a better graphics card. All I have to tell him is to do it. Not sure if I will...Or just wait on this Steambox. Not real big on Windows... I hate to put an extra 100 bucks down just for that. |

But I'm pretty sure you won't be able to play just any game with a controller. The game has to support it.

It's essentially an online store. You create an account and then pay to download any games that they have there. (They have A LOT of games) If you're a PC gamer, you'd love it, but you clearly just said you're not so...yeah.

Then I'll defiantly be getting it on Day 1 it seems,I want to be a PC gamer again and one thing I hate about PC gaming is having to sit for a long time in a computer chair or carrying around a big&heavy lap top..Playing these games on a TV and with a controller like a game console will make it so much more comfortable.

It'll probably have keyboard/mouse control support as well I assume. Which, for most games I'd be ok with. More so the upcoming Elder Scrolls MMO

I would too But I'd just like the option to use a keyboard or a game pad,I'm so used to game pads now and so I'd likely use that more often

It really depends on what you want to play. And how old the games are. Nowadays, I think every 3rd and 1st person game on PC supports game pads. I use almost only my 360 pad. Old games, like Hitman Blood Money for example, don't have game pad support. And strategy games like Dawn of War or Command & Conquer, need to be played with a mouse and keyboard.

So, seeing this, I do wonder if this will have console exclusives, especially consiering it seems to basically run Steam but is for hooking up to a television. Guessing maybe they'll put some sort of lock on titles for the console? I sorely hope Half-Life and the Portal series don't make returns on this and not to PC. I'd be heartbroken.

Several high profile Valve employees have been fired or resigned, as well as over 20 people from their hardware division. What the hell is going on over there?

Huh, that is super weird.
So do we think the people who resigned did so over the people who were being fired or were they just given the choice of "resigning"?
