The fingerprinting powders made sense because he was sort of a "detective" and the computer stuff also sense he had enough time to browse the web lol.

If you need to relate to a comic book character then we have issues....comic books are an escape from reality for me.

Can you relate to Spider-Man? Because that's his main appeal, and one of the main reasons is so popular.
Let's just go back to Superman please.

I think you are missing the point. A character being relatable just means that they have characteristics and actions that a normal person possess or will do, respectively during times of strife, struggle, etc.
Nolan's Batman is more "realistic" in his response, intelligence, and actions than say comic/cartoon Batman has been represented in many situations. Peter Parker is more relatable to the average nerdy/hipster high school student than many superheroes because of his self-doubt, awkwardness, and lack of feeling like a winner. Cavill's Clark/Supes looks like he will be more relatable in that he questions himself, his place in the world, dealt with learning disabilities due to his powers and therefore made him probably feel isolated, stupid, and a freak as many kids and teens do at times.

Well I think other people miss the point that Superman is "relatable" as well. You don't think his heart hurts and he feels sadness when his father dies? I think MOST people on Earth experience sadness....

I just don't get why people need to relate to comic book characters...

I don't think it is that people NEED to relate to the characters, but rather find out that they do relate to them in some way and it makes the connections to the characters more special for some.

Because it make the story more thrilling and enjoyable? You are more emotionally invested. It also makes characters come to life if you can understand the human emotions that drive them. The fact that comic books are escapist fantasy makes this even more true. If you can identify with the hero, you can pretend to be him or her and that is what fantasy is all about. It's a big part of Superman's success. At his most basic, Clark Kent is a bumbling nerd ignored by everyone who is secretly more, a daring superhero beloved by all. Wish fulfillment is all the more effective when the hero is more relatable.

He better be a blogger or up on the new technologies; twitter, youtube, fb. He better not just take pics for the Dailyplanet. I want to see Jimmy be the man in his own little world. No bow ties this time though lol.

And a good story doesn't feature a relatable protagonist?

I thought this was a thread about the 'viral' campaign? Is there no new information on that?

Yeah, I noticed that the site now says "WE HAVE LEARNED THAT THE ORIGIN OF THE SIGNAL IS ON EARTH..."
Dunno how long it's been saying that, but I guess the viral could still be on and they might continue in that direction.
