Jeff Goldblum should have got a best actor nomination for The Fly. I don't know if that's an unpopular opinion or not, but I wanted to share.

Jeff Goldblum was great in The Fly. That's actually the only film I really liked him in, besides Invasion of the Body Snatchers maybe. And I thought he was terrible in Jurrasic Park, now that's gotta be unpopular, right?

Jurassic Park is my favorite Goldblum role, though that's probably because it was such a big part of my childhood.

He used to be my favorite character when I was a kid, but after watching the trilogy on blu ray I'm realizing how frustrating his delivery is. It's almost like he barely remembers his lines. This works for the type of scientist I usually see him play, but it's kind of one note. His character is written well enough to still be enjoyable, however. Acting wise he has his moments, but then he also has THOSE moments. A lot. He gets nostalgia points, though, which is why I keep wanting to like him more than I do.

^^ I like Ian as a character, but you are right about Jeff. My step-dad thinks he's the worst actor ever LOL.

The Fly, as much as it gives me the heebie jeebies and makes me wanna throw up, is my favorite film of his. Definitely.

I don't know if this is unpopular, it probably is, but one of my favorite 80's films is Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure lol.

Never seen it. Sounds like I'm missing out. Is it about him turning into a human fly, or is that just a ninja turtles character?

If you watch the special feature on the Blu Ray (unsure if it's on the DVD) on the football stadium explosion, you can see them filming the people screaming, ducking and running to try and escape if you want to see it closer up.

The problem I had with that scene was that the crowd really did not react the way a huge crowd would in a situation like that. I've been to a lot of ballgames, and one thing of which one is constantly aware in stadiums is that the mood, motion and momentum of a massive crowd of people can shift in an instant. Crowds panic easily and stampede at the least provocation. There is a long and tragic history of stadium stampedes that attests to this fact.

If you have a situation in which there is a huge explosion inside a stadium, people are going to stampede. That is just a fact. They are going to leave their seats in a blind panic, rushing for safety without regard for anything else. Those guys with guns would have been run over and trampled before they got off a shot. In fact, most of the people in that stadium would not have seen the gunmen, simply because of sight lines, and those who did would have panicked harder and run faster. Given crowd dynamics, there is simply no way they would have quieted down the way that crowd did in TDKR and sat there listening to Bane babbling at them in his bizarre voice. That scene was thoroughly unrealistic for that and several other reasons.

Same. Most of my problems with it were fanboy complaints and comparing it to the first 2 movies. But honestly, I wouldnt say that it's god-awful and it's a lot better than some of the bad CBMS out there

He's a scientist who invented these teleportation pods and during one of his tests he teleports with a fly in the pod with him which fuses their DNA. It's a David Cronenberg picture so it's really well made. I recommend it.

I am extremely excited about Man of Steel and feel that they are doing Superman right for the first time in decades... but I really would have loved to see Abrams Flyby version of the movie.

I always laugh when you see him in the scene in JP where he's injured, and it looks like he's sprawled over the table posing. His shirt is unbutton, and it just looks like he's showing off his abs.

It's just a ninja turtles character.

Just kidding, it is exactly what Matt Mortem explained perfectly. It is also one of these remakes which I think surpasses the original from the 50's. Cronenberg incorporated a lot of his trademarks "body horror" obsessions and it really fits the story imo. It is also pretty gross lol.
That said I havent seen it in a long time and I don't know how well it has aged. But like Matt Mortem said, I remember that it was very well made.

I really liked about 53 % of Prometheus
Also I thought it was great that they tried something different. And that prologue was beautiful
