I say no!
When you think about it, most of the roles in TASM can easily be replaced by new ones in the sequel, without adding much screen time. For example, Captain Stacy's screentime could be used for Harry Osborn in the sequel, while Electro would obviously take Connor's. Plus, Spider-Man doesn't need an origin anymore, thus that time could be either used to develop Peter further or some other character. Mary Jane will possibly have as much as Flash had in the first film. You can apply that logic to the third installment as well. In my example, we'd basically have the constellation of Raimi's "Spider-Man" so far, not knowing what secondary villain could be used (maybe slowly introducing the symbiote for the 2nd reboot-trilogy??). MJ would take Gwen's place, assuming she's going to die at the end of TASM2. ![]() What do you think? Do we really already have too much crammed into the sequel? Or will it all play out well in the end?

Arrow which is around 43 minutes had a similar amount of characters in its Pilot, it didn't feel too crowded, gave you plenty of info yet worked well. So I think for a movie it can be done.
I'm very optimistic about the sequel, I've got a good feeling about it. Further note, have you guys seen the rumour I guess that a lot of it is being filmed in London? Could that affect characters introduced? |

I don't think there are too many characters.
That fact that this is an origin as well as the fact that the runtime willl likely be extended means that there should be enough extra time to flesh out the new characters.

It's not that simple.
Harry Osborn will need more screen time than Capt. Stacy I think. Also, if they want to build up Green Goblin, Oscorp and Norman Osborn needs alot of screen time. I agree about Mary Jane having about as much screen time as Flash did, that's very possible. But I think Flash should appear in ASM2 as well. Would feel weird to just drop him after ASM. Also, Ratha might need a conclusion in ASM2 as well. It's hard to see how much screen time Daily Bugle would require. I agree though that it's not too many (yet), since the whole origin thing is done with.

CBMs I enjoy the most at this moment: 1) The Avengers, 2) The Dark Knight, 3) Iron Man 3, 4) Iron Man, 5) The Amazing Spider-Man. CBMs in the near future I'm most looking forward to at this moment: 2) Thor 2, 3) Man of Steel, 4) The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 5) Guardians of the Galaxy (would be higher in the list if it wasn't for how much I hate the film Super from the same director). |

It doesn't seem like too many characters.
MJ has a small role, so she probably won't take up that much screen time. Harry Osborn probably won't have a very large role either. The Daily Bugle will probably have as much of a role as it did in SM1. Aunt May's role will be the same as TASM probably. Norman Osborn will probably have the same screen time as Captain Stacey in this film. Electro will be the same as Connors, probably a little more actually. Flash will probably be about the same. Gwen will be the same. It doesn't compare to the amount of characters Spider-Man 3 just threw in.

It's also possible that Peter, Gwen, Harry, Flash and MJ will share the same scenes.

If TASM was 2 hours and 20 minutes long, I assume this movie would either be about the same length, or a little longer (like 2 hours, 30 minutes). Also, they wouldn't have to get into Spider-Man's origin this time, which takes up about a whole hour of the movie.

Especially in the case of MJ and Flash. I don't see either of them having scenes that Peter, Gwen, Harry, or a combination of the 3 being in them; especially in peter's case.

Quality of the screen time matters more than Quantity imo
For example Obadiah Stane was a much better villian for me in IM1 than Ra's or Scarecrow in BB despite having lesser screentime than both of them |

Why was Flash Thompson excluded from the list on ASM2? Surely he'll still be apart of the sequel.

That's because they were out of high school by that time. ASM2...they're still in high school. Flash will still be there.

Number of characters doesn't matter. Numerous films have many. It's how it's written that counts. Look at Nolan.

I think that Peter should be in high school for the majority of the film, but graduate towards the end. Maybe we can hear him talking to Aunt May about applying for ESU? Perhaps that is the college that MJ will be going to?

He'll probably show up and say "What's up, Parker?" I don't think he is necessary for the plot, but I just want him to be a recurring character until later movies.

I think it will be fine, just don't put more than two rogue gallery villains in it and have them be major villains.

You have to realize that in the case of Spider-Man 3 you could've put 1-2 of the new characters together in a given movie:
Harry + Sandman + Plot threads = movie Harry + Eddie/Symbiote/Venom = movie Sandman + other thugs from the comics = movie That's without considering the Staceys.

I don't think MJ will have a huge role in the movie. She'll just....be there. I think you're gonna see more of Electro and Harry.
The only thing that interests me is Norman Osborn. How much of a factor will he play in the next movie?

I think he'll be a behind the scenes villain which sets him up to be the Green Gobin for the third. I'm sure he and Electro will somehow be connected and share scenes together.

What about Nolan? His movies also suffer from over crowding and certain characters getting the shaft.

I hope Flash is still in this. Obviously they're not in HS anymore since Gwen said she was a "senior" at Midtown Science. But, I'd hope that Flash goes to whatever college Gwen and Peter go to (with MJ and Harry).
