I agree with this post. Oh, and welcome back.

I've acknowledged a few parts I did like many times though, but the cons just overpower the pros, lol.

mine is the exact opposite the pros overpower the cons , same with TDKR but i still think the best part of the movie is the last part

I could say the same about the last part you mentioned as well. With TAS-M, my favorite is in the beginning, lol.

I thought the first half was better, but the second is still more fun IMO.

I found it odd that the first half was better. In fact, everything up until after the bridge action sequence is very well done.

The second half has all the fight scens, Peter's relationship with Gwen and her father developing, etc. I said this months ago, but the only scene I really hated was Peter telling Captain Stacy about Connors at the police station.

For me, the comparison between ASM and the Raimi films is this:

I acknowledge that SM1 and SM2 were more complete films, but ASM was much, much, MUCH closer to what I had wanted in a comic book film, and much closer to the Peter Parker/Spider-man that I read growing up. So I was vastly more satisfied with ASM then the old Spidey films.

Usually, I'm pretty good at seperating my book fan from my movie fan and enjoying the two mediums seperately. For example, I love both the Bourne films and novels, despite them being almost completely different aside from the "spy with no memory" premise. However, I'm such a big Spidey fan it did dampen my enjoyment of Spider-man 2 specifically. That was a very dissappointing experience in the theatre for me, because I expected quite a few things to be fixed that I had issue with in the first film, and the problems I had were all magnified. Some of the good were magnified too (better action), but the bad parts really irked me. So much so that it made it hard for me to enjoy the film.

Leaving stories open ended feels like a cliffhanger at the end of a comic book issue. The stories will just resolve over time.

Even before the bridge scene, imo. Right before Peter puts on the entire Spidey suit was the best part of TAS-M.

The only thing I liked about ASM over the first trilogy were the fight and web swinging scenes. They really upped the ante this time around. Andrew Garfield is a good actor imo but he just didn't do it for me as Peter Parker. Connors going from rational scientist to crazy scientist was rushed and felt stupid. Aunt May was non-existant in this movie but they may have been done because of how much focus was put on her character in the 1st trilogy. Overall I didn't like the movie and couldn't care less to see anything else from this Spidey universe.

Agree with Connors' story being rushed. If they'd paced it better I think it could have really worked.

I know some have said about his plan being stupid, but I think that's the brilliance with it. He's lost all rationale, his desperate quest to make 'a world without weakness, a world where everyone is equal' has led him to this. He thinks he's doing best for everyone in that sense. It's so far fetched and ridiculous - it suits what he's become.

But obviously a more rational villain with a more dangerous, well executed plan is something I'd prefer for the next one.

his plan was the same as magneto in xmen lol. it was cool, though it could have been explained a little better in the movie.

When people say 'compete film', what do you mean???? How is ASM not a complete film?

In the same way The Fellowship of the Ring is incomplete. Certain plotlines have yet to be resolved.

I'll just repost my review from IMDb:

Finally a superhero action film that isn't blown out of proportions with giant action scenes and big budget movie all-stars. Marc Webb understands that pleasing the fans shouldn't be a top priority. His priority should be making a good film.

Webb starts with a charming, heart-filled and talented cast. Andrew Garfield, who recently got robbed an Oscar for his performance in The Social Network. Emma Stone, from widely known good films such as The Help and Zombieland. Also throw in Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Sally Field, and Rhys Ifans to portray Uncle Ben, George Stacy, Aunt May, and Dr. Connors respectively.

Webb also understands that effects should never be the center focus of a film. So he uses his greatest strength to help reel audiences in: giving characters motivation, conflicts, and consequences to portray intelligent young-adult drama. This version of Peter Parker is an intelligent, brave, and deep character who slowly grows into the role of being a superhero. And the new love interest, Gwen Stacy, is an actual character, who is smarter than Peter and actually fights the villain in an intense encounter.

The action is also story driven. There is no mindless explosion because there's an opportunity for it. There is no super drawn out fight because the budget allows it. Each encounter happens for a reason. Spidey fights the Lizard over a giant sewer conjunction because he's going to take down Connors after the police refuse to. In return, Connors strikes back with his alter ego, and attacks Peter at his own school to make sure he is able to carry out his plan without anyone trying to stop him. Each fight lasts about a minute or so, giving you a lot of quick, breathtaking visuals rather than a few dragging, super long ones that lack energy.

The only place the film struggles is the final act, where the film relies on a giant fight atop a huge, shiny set piece to wow the audience, after such a smart ride up to the climax, something more personal should have been used instead. The villain is then reduced to a CGI monster Spidey must punch. And stemming from this issue is the fact that the villain evil army of 'minions' is forgotten until the end of the film. As a truly intrigued member of the audience, I wanted to see what the army was doing to New York, that was surprisingly happening off-screen.

Perhaps in the next Batman or Captain America or even Hulk film we will see such a mature and (almost) fully careful approach as we did here.

I gave it a 7, though if IMDb could let you score with "1/2" marks, I'd give it a 6.5 or so.

I watched this for the third time today(saw it twice in the theatre). I found myself really enjoying it this time. I said back in July that this film and Raimi's were about equal, but I'm gonna raise TASM up a notch.

IDK if the SWAT team members were really his minions or anything, they just got turned into Lizards so Connors could continue his journey to Oscorp tower. I really don't think there was much of NYC to show either other than people running and screaming (which they showed us).

Cool, glad you enjoyed it more after seeing it again. What was your previous rating, and how do you rate it now? Also, how do you rate the Raimi films?
