DC Comics has stated that when Action Comics hits it's 1000th issue, they'll do something.

One day, when they get off their asses at Marvel and give us "Phil Coulson, Agent of SHIELD", that will get to 1,000.

Don't know if they count anymore, since they started renumbering...
Although Detective Comics started first, Action comics passed it when it went into being a weekly series, so Action is ahead now- Action comics with issue #18 will be reaching around #950 The upcoming issue if Detective Comics #19 which would be issue #900 is being celebrated with a massive 80 page giant.
