Yep, he also looks older than he did in that photo, now.

I really do think he is emerging as a strong contender.

Honestly, I would like to see a more cynical, fast-talking Joker rather than the kinda weaselly one that Heath played (not dissing him, just saying I'd like something different.) Hader would be good if you're looking for someone who sounds like Heath, but I would like someone like a young Dennis Leary. I can't think of any new guys like that, but that's what I would like to see in a Joker actor.
denis leary-esque joker would be pretty cool. obviously i wouldn't cast him though, not now anyway.

the purge dude gave me a jokerish vibe when i saw the trailer, although i haven't bothered to see the movie.

Michael Emerson for the Joker!

he already voiced the Joker so we know he can nail the character. but i was watching Saw awhile ago and noticed that Emerson was the psycho guy holding Dr. Gordon's family hostage. he can pull off crazy nicely.

Emerson can do crazy, but I'm not sure he has the look to play the Joker. I think he'd be an amazing Mad Hatter though. Or Riddler maybe.

Yeah Emerson doesn't have the visual look of the Joker...but I didn't think Heath Ledger did either. Emerson would be a great Riddler I think to! Or Mad Hatter! Someone nuts definitely.

Why not now? If you mean the age, I'd like to point out that Jack Nicholson was 52 when he played The Joker.

I really like suggestions of both Gaspard Ulliel and Matt Smith. I feel like we've stepped it up from the Crispin Glover days with the fantasy casting .

Casting the Joker is near impossible for us. By that, I mean some folks are posting great options (Matt Smith yes, dude from The Purge NO), but it's so hard to predict who will ultimately be cast. Look at all of the good options we discussed pre-TDK, and then ****ing Heath Ledger's casting came out of nowhere. I was shocked and totally skeptical.

Now, we should have a certain level of trust in terms of casting.

James Landry Hébert not only would look the part, but I think he could do a great 'classic' Joker.

Some ideas I've seen around the net:

James Franco, Sharlto Copley, Ben Foster

Just to add some new names to the mix.

Prior to watching Breaking Bad's episode "Crawl Space", I would've suggested Bryan Cranston for Gordon.

But after watching it? I'd watch him as the Joker.

He'll be about 60 by the time the movie (if it happens at all) enters production. Should the next franchise become 'episodic', with recurring characters, he would be in his mid 70s by the time it entered its stride.

Just because he can laugh awesomely doesn't mean it's suitable for the Joker in live-action. Cranston is Commissioner Gordon or Mr. Freeze. I don't say Freeze just because of his bald head or Gordon because of his mustache in the early seasons of BB either.

I believe he embodies Gordon extremely well, and looks a hell of lot like him. As for Freeze, I think he can sport a good bald head, play a fantastic villain that you love to hate but also feel for because it's still a tragedy. But as "Heisenberg" his voice goes even lower and has a slow methodical element to it that could fit.

Back to Joker. Im going with Matt Smith as of now. I have to see more from him though.
