Django has build a good Oscar momentum for the Oscars. It won both Screenplay and Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes, Golden Europe and BAFTA.
I would love if Waltz upset Tommy Lee. |

Waltz's, Jackson's and DiCaprio's characters stood out because they had personality. By comparison, Foxx's Django was pretty much by the numbers, especially with the generic plotline he was given.

This seems to be a standard problem with QT's movies lately. Reservoir Dogs had a very lean, tight script and Pulp Fiction is paced superbly. Both Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, however, are quite bloated by comparison. Don't even get me started on the excesses of Kill Bill (seriously, two movies?). Mind you, they are still a blast to watch, but I would have preferred for QT to trim the fat off some more so that the film doesn't struggle to keep our attention every now and then.

Django was supposed to be QT's take on the Man with No Name almost. He wasn't supposed to be bigger than life, just kind of....there. And his expressions are what sold you. I felt what he was thinking without him even having to talk.

See I was fine with WHAT happened towards the end of the film, it hit the necessary beats, but I agree that it wasn't necessarily the best way to go about it. Him being captured again was a little much but everything else that occurs is very much the entire point of the film. |

Indeed. I'm glad to see it as well. A major part of why he was even able to make Django with the budget that he did was based on the earlier success of Basterds.

What do you all think of this selection for music instead of the tupac song during the big shootout. I thought the tupac song came from out of nowhere and was misplaced. I would have went with unchained melody by the righteous brothers. I know it was in ghost but it would have went in nice there. Right when the tupac song starts I would go to the halfway point of unchained melody. Try it out.

I also think Jamie Foxx show episode lonesome cowbro had something to do with his casting. I was a fan of that show and right when he was cast I thought of that episode

I am very pleased about that. Django was fantastic. I'm not totally sure about his idea for what may be called 'Killer Crow', but to be honest, I've been a little sceptical about his last two in the development stage and he blew me away each time. In any case he'll have a good budget to play with.

The music in the shootout scene has the right energy, rythm, and beat for the scene, but the vocals hurt it a bit. In hindsight this was definitely my favorite film of 2012.

I thought Tupac had said "Calvin Candie, remember me" in that song the first time I saw the movie.

Congratulations to Christoph Waltz and Quentin Tarantino for their Oscar wins for Best Actor in a Supporting role and Best Original Screenplay!
I was surprised that Waltz won, not because he wasn't great, but because he won so recently in another Tarantino film and he was up against some formidable competition for the award. I am very glad to see QT win his second writing Oscar. My quibbles with some parts of the film aside I really think he deserved it. I just hope we get to see him get one for directing someday as well. 8000 posts! |
