Congrats to The Avengers. It's nowhere near my favorite of 2012 (superhero or otherwise), but it's clear as day that this made a lot of fans very happy and that's always nice to see.

I guess you're joking, but on the off chance you're not: No it isn't.

Regardless of whether they were superhero films or not, both Avengers and TDKR (or Dredd, or Chronicle or whatever else) have just as much right to be considered someone's favorite film of the year as anything else. I mean, if you're just going to up and start arbitrarily excluding entire genres, why not say that comedies or romances, or heck let's go crazy and even say drama can't be counted...because...uh...what's the reason for excluding an entire genre?

When discussing the best films overall, genre is not a factor.

James, listen, you seem like a cool poster, but let's list off the biggest fact here...this is called SuperHeroHype. Of course a CBM will win everything, but no CBM for 2012 was the best film of the year. Imo, TDKR was the closest, but I know it's not even the best film of the year. There are plenty films that overshadowed any CBM and I've already named those films anyways. Sure, I listed TDKR as a nomination, but I also listen Lincoln, Argo, The Master and Django Unchained before it and I haven't seen Les Mis or Zero Dark Thirty yet.

Thanks Anno! I too think you are a pretty cool poster.

You'll note I've made part of the quote above bold, I've done this to illustrate that while I see what you're trying to say the fact remains it still comes down to personal opinion. Yes this is largely a superhero focused forum and by it's very nature you'd expect superhero films to win Best Film each year, but from what I understand this is one of the few (perhaps only?) times that has happened here. That alone should be enough to demonstrate quite clearly that any superhero bias you might find on these forums is, at best, minimal.

Where are there any polls that won't show another film besides a CBM winning on these forums? It would be a shock for me since I haven't seen any of those polls you mention.

I'm merely going off what I'd seen other posters mention, I don't have the previous list of winners immediately available, sadly.

Regardless, those previous polls are ultimately incidental to my point. Saying "...no CMB for 2012 was the best film of the year." is your own perspective. It's no more fact than someone claiming no drama was best film of the year, no comedy, no romance, etc. No CBM for 2012 was Anno's best film of the year is a fact, however

Nope! When it comes to what's best or worst there are no facts, it's all subjective.
