Hmmm Fallout? As in Fallout 3 and Vegas? Or the ones before that?

Because they're fun. Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best games ever made imo

But then I've never understood the love for RTS (and, in fact, loathe them) so I guess we'll have to put it down to a mindblowing concept like "people like different things"

It's just the rules of the game. That's like asking why let your opponent take a turn in chess.

Not really. When you are out in war, one doesnt stop and allow the enemy a turn to attack. Its not a game of chess. I can understand why he thinks it doesnt make sense for turns to be taken in an action based setting.

hmm even so it is not war it's waste land in a post apocalyptic survival are in that Game yes. but the game was designed like how the marvel "Avengers alliance Game" is . it's their way of showing the enemy or opponent your characters facing no matter the setting is giving you something or some one to struggle against and you know gamers are supposed to have a challenge. That's old school RPG system. old cause that's what they used to be like. and that's the system they chose back then compared to more real life action and those in game characters are supposed attack or hit back some how.

It's like being in a boxing match or a kick boxing match. The other guy/ person is gonna do his/ her best to hit you and he/she may land few hits in. it's going to happen if your in something like that. it part of the rule of the game it the way it was designed.

But a game is not a war. It might simulate or emulate a war, or at least a battle, but is not one.

Way to miss Soapy's point, too. "It's just the rules of the game." Like Chess. Chess was designed to be a back-and-forth match, not a matter of both players flinging pieces at each other as fast and hard as they can. Why? Because them's the rules.

Some video games are designed in this same way. Why? Probably for the same reason as to why JRPGs were originally turn-based. Why? Probably a limitation of the technology of the time. What this does accomplish, however, is making genres out of them. That means you have a fanbase who enjoys them, purchases them, and that whole purchase thing generally tends to be the point of business.

To answer the original question, why do people like turn-based games? Because different people like different things. It's a novel concept, totally, I know.

I feel like turn-based strategy probably owes a lot to the tabletop wargaming scene, which hit it's peak in the 60's and 70's. Incidentally that's what also spawned Dungeons & Dragons and other pen & paper rpg's which have also influenced videogames heavily and are also turn-based (by necessity, as a cpu can handle multiple simulaneous events much better than a table full of Mountain Dew swilling nerds)

You guys indocrinated me, decided to go ahead and get all 3 ME3 DLC. I'm holding off on playing ME3 again until I get my renegade through 1-2 as well so I can play 3 back to back as my paragon first, then renegade. Second time through 1 is going much faster, shaved almost 10 hours off while still doing all the quests. Renegade Shepard is a dick, and hilarious at the same time.

Some of the choices were still hard to make, like with Wrex. It's also odd considering my paragon romances Tali, but my renegade is going out of his way to be a jerk to her. It's worth it considering I'll get to see what the complete opposite of my normal choices will turn out.

Now if only I could pull myself to atleast finish 1 character imported into DA 2 run. I have a Rogue, Mage, and Warrior all waiting to be imported in, but I'm not a fan of DA 2.

I don't think I'd be able to do a Renegade run on ME3. Seeing the choices you have against squadmates who were with you during the 1st two games. Ugh, I think I would start crying.

I already cried during the paragon run through, Mordrin you brave soul.

I'm working on my Renegade run through of all three right now. It's not going to be pretty.

The nastiest thing about a really dark Renegade playthrough is you don't just get people killed but in a few cases they basically want to die.

One thing I'm not going to miss about ME 1 after completing both runs, the random yelling in battle. "Enemies everywhere!", "Go, go, go", and "I'll destroy you!", got old pretty fast, lol.

Lol, yeah I was just replaying some of ME1 with that texture mod and I think the guys in Chora's Den shouted "Hold the line!" at least six times in a row.

"I've lost shields!"

ENEMIES EVERYWHERE is something I grew to hate very quickly in ME1.

I killed Wrex in my Renegade playthrough of ME1 today. That was... um... brutal.

Ash killed Wrex despite my earnest attempts to save him.

Made me pretty pissed at her but I had already locked into a romance with her so despite my desire to just sex Liara up out of spite, so I finished the game sort of side-eying her throughout the rest of the romantic content.

Quite possibly one of the most cold-blooded murders in the series. She's so dispassionate about it, like she knew it was inevitable. Even Miranda never got that icy.

But you know you can have Wrex live and sex up Ashley, right?

Oh sure, it was just my first time through so I hadn't got my persuasion skills up and I hadn't done Wrex's sidequest yet so it was kind of impossible for me to talk him down. But yeah like you said it was her attitude throughout that moment that bothered me moreso than her actually shooting Wrex.

If you have to kill Wrex in 3 and have killed Ashley during the Citadel Coup, Wrex has a pretty hilarious nod to that bit.

Ah, gotcha. Ashley in general bothers me, though. I mean, I know it's purely a political move by Udina to prop up humanity's rep, but nothing she does ever convinced me she was SPECTRE material.

"Ashley not around to do your dirty work for you?"

Well, I guess anyone who accompanies Shepard on the field, goes through all the crazy stuff and lives to talk about it, is considered SPECTRE material.
