For some reason, Mephisto was my first thought too. Something like that would definitely bring a new aspect to the MCU.

I hope not. That will send the show off in a completely different direction and will make people think that it's all Whedon can really do. I want this show to stand on its own apart from Buffy and Angel. And all of that One More Day stuff in Spider-Man has been the worst.

It is a little confusing as the titles says that he was cast in the pilot but the pilot is in the can and being edited. The actual article doesn't really indicate that it is a part in the pilot, just that it is s super secret role on the show. This seems more likely, as I think the confidence level for a series pickup has got to be ridiculously high for this.

Yeah, kind of weird timing for an announcement like this. I agree that the green light is pretty much all but guaranteed at this point, but I still don't see a reason to put the cart before the horse.

Does Marvel have the Ghost Rider rights back? Then again, I wonder if they can use characters the other studios own in TV shows.

Not likely, unless Sony sold it back to them. Wasn't Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance only last year? Would definitely not have reverted back to Marvel yet.

^ Excellent thought. There have been rumors of Cloak & Dagger on the small screen for several years now. Seems like a good bet.

Lionsgate gave the Punisher rights back to Marvel pretty quickly after Punisher: War Zone bombed, probably earlier than when the rights would have expired.

Really? That seems like a stretch. Not that I wouldn't love to see Cloak & Dagger, mind.

Wouldn't be surprised if he were a Marvel comic character given how "super top-secret" his role is.

How so? A Cloak & Dagger show has been in various stages of development for several years. It was being mentioned in the same breath as AKA Jessica Jones and I am guessing that elements of both shows are going to be worked into this.

I didn't think the rights reverted back, I just thought it was possible that Sony simply gave the rights back because they saw no profit from that franchise anymore.

I dunno, it just stuck me as unlikely. I'm all for the idea though.

"Super top secret" has people thinking T'Challa. But I'd rather he debut on the big screen. I also read on another forum that people think he may be Nick Fury jr. but I can't really see that. Cloak might be a good guess but if the secret is THAT important than I'm leaning more toward BP.

I assume that BP will end up on the big screen at some point, and I don't think they'd give role with big screen franchise potential to a relatively low-ranking (but nonetheless good) actor like Richards.

Whatever the secret is, I really don't think it will be T'Challa.

Luke Cage?

I feel like the Heroes for Hire are a couple of the best bets for superheroes to appear on this show.

He looks young but Richards is nearly 40. They are going to want someone about 10 years younger when they cast BP and I doubt they introduce him on SHIELD. I aslo don't see Fury Jr, but I could possibly see a young Fury in a flashback scenario. That said, I really think it is Cloak.

Cloak should probably be younger than T'Challa, I would think. If he's too old for BP, then...

I'm not really familiar with Cloak. He is supposed to be young, but when I read his appearance in various Spider-Man comics he always came off older to me.

Yeah again, I'd much prefer it if BP debuted on the big screen in true king fashion.

(But if and big IF it were BP I'd have a total mark out moment. )

There's no indication that Marvel won't go ahead with these shows still or at least Cloak and Dagger. My guess is Marvel is going to see how the S.H.I.E.L.D. goes and then if it does good they'll start green-lighting more shows same as how they're using Guardians as a testing ground for lesser known character movies.
That being said I do think J August Richards' character is a Marvel hero.
