Maybe so - depends upon the context and the design of the effect. Again, turn to the comics to see what works and what does not. I think very early on, Kirby had Reed's neck stretch once - saw how silly it looked - and never did it again. They just have to go with what looks impressive for the shot.

Now while I have been critical of the stretching attempts in the first two movies, I do like a few of the Reed gags at the end of FF1. When he turns into the wheel and rolls towards Doom and then becomes the big sheet and wraps his self around him - all that seemed to work very well and had a nice "comic book" feel to it. The odd pose Reed strikes to direct the water towards Doom does not work so well for me.

I'm reading the original comics right now. Even though i really liked Ioan Gruffudd has an actor, the script really made him way more of a loser than he should be. in these comics read is a real manly man. what are the chances he will ever be portrayed that way? i feel its slim

Last year's The Spectacular Now breakout star Miles Teller is currently receiving buzz for his starring role in the independent film Whiplash, which was picked up by Sony just days after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this week. As the actor reportedly topped the shortlist for Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in Fox's Fantastic Four reboot mid last year, the casting was immediately debunked by director Josh Trank before Teller confirmed himself that he's had talks.

Considering we've yet to hear anything on The Fantastic Four since then, besides a later release date and the strong likeliness that Miles Teller's Awkward Moment co-star Michael B. Jordon will play Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, Punch Drunk Critics caught up with the aforementioned actor at Sundance and pressed him for an update. “Yeah, that should be coming up in the next few weeks,” he replied, when asked bluntly if we'll see him in the 2015 reboot of Marvel's First Family. Could this mean the casting has been finalized? Maybe. We'll find out, well, in a few weeks if the trades don't get the jump on the casting before then. Anyhow, the interview conductor makes note that Teller seemed very enthusiastic about playing Mr. Fantastic. What do you think?

With principal photography starting on March 31, The Fantastic Four will release on June 19, 2015.

Variety's article says that Teller is testing for the role, but he is not the frontrunner or officially attached. Fox is also expected to test Game of Thrones' Richard Madden and Kit Harington for Mr. Fantastic.

I'm behind the younger cast thing if they can get someone like Madden on board.

I'd like to see Reed wearing the circular glasses this time around.

Teller is solid actor. Can't really see him as Reed based on his previous roles, but he showed some decent range in The Spectacular Now, especially in the third act. Really good movie.

Richard Madden and Kit Harrington would be terrible...but especially Madden. I don't like that guy at all.

If they wanted a Younger Reed, why not someone who is in the same age range as Fassbender (36) and McAvoy (34)?

Fassbender is a perfect exmple of why I can't buy the argument: "Look at what Fox did with First Class - that shows they've got their s*** together and will do a good job with FF."

So why are we talking about this group of actors that seem so wrong instead of a Fassbender or some other actor who could do Reed justice?

ya, kinda odd as hollywood normally cast older to play young roles (especially with male leads), I mean look at Garfield as Spider-man, he's like 30 now and still playing a teenager... but, there going to cast a 27 y.o. for an adult Reed (or are they really going for a teen team)

I wouldn't mind a teenage FF film, so long as they made it smart like TASM or the Hunger Games and don't dumb it down to try to reach that demographic. I would also prefer they skip the origin story, but I'm probably going to be disappointed on that one. Honestly, I just want a solid movie.

I could see them skipping the origin if they were going with a old already established team... but, with a young team, we will most likely be seeing an origin, I mean how young were they when they got they powers

Kit Harington is out of the running... since he's doing Spooks next month and then another movie afterwards.

No word yet on whether Madden is still in the mix.

I can see it. Especially after THE SPECTACULAR NOW.

He's got the sort of arrogant intelligence thing down.

Reed can't appear that arrogant, otherwise they could've gotten Jesse Eisenberg for the part.

Miles is actually talented as he has shown to prove he does have range so I'm going to keep an open mind to this. In fact, someone (mercuryx, I think?) on here actually suggested him last year.

I know who Miles Teller is, but have never seen anything that he's been in, so I'm definitely in 'wait and see' mode with him in this role.

I am interested to see what he looks like in costume once they finally get filming underway, though.
