I was just wondering could Jim Carrey possibly be up for the Peter Quill role? I haven't read too many GOTG comics so I'm not that familiar with the character. I realize Carrey is a lot older than mot of the rumored potential Starlords, but how important is age for this character? From the (very) limited comics I've read Quill seems to be a little grizzled and cynical, so someone with a bit of life experience seems plausible. And Carrey has proven he can act - I'm not talking Ace Ventura Space Guardian here! I'm not even suggesting he's right for the part. Just wondering what you more knowledgeable fans might think of the idea

No to Carrey as Quill or Thanos.

Disagree. And boring design. Though to be fair he still had more personality than the supposed live actor standing next to him.

Seriously though, Thanos doesnt have to be full cgi. They have several better options, including the combos already mentioned by Kang et al.

Use of a big stunt double like this, and the blending techniques from Captain America, reversedd in reverse (using a giant body double to blow up the starring actor, vs a smaller body double to shrink them down) Is a great option imo.

I know I'm repeating what I said before, but I thought the visual might help people out.

I've said it before. Movie Reshape is the answer. No need for body doubles, forced perspective, etc:

Eh if you want someone who has had MoCap experience, might as well go to the king of Mocap in Andy Serkis. He also voiced that creepy little **** in gollum for LOTR, so he has the skills imho to do somethin' great with groot or RR

Being king also comes with a price tag. I doubt Marvel would want to shell out that amount of cash.

There's a difference between just mocaping someone, and using a giant stunt man and blending the two performances. You'd have much more realistic lighting and real world reactions if you have a physical body that size in the shot.

I know they're doing Smaug with Cumberbatch probably on all fours growling his lines and ****, so it's possible. But since Thanos is humanoid, I get it.

They didn't use a giant stunt man as a stand-in for Hulk in The Avengers, just Mark Ruffalo in a mo-cap suit with a fake torso on top. He wasn't as large as Hulk would be but the CGI filled that in effortlessly.

Hulk appeared for like, 5 minutes on the actual screen in Avengers. It's more costly to create a character from scratch like Hulk than to edit someone who's actually there.

Thanos is going to need much more screen time than Hulk had.

Mentioning Andy Serkis when talking about the possibility of Motion Capture for either Groot or RR? Yes, it is. Sure, price tag may be an issue, doesn't mean you can't look at him and try to work something out. That is, if they even want to. Just like mentioning Carrey, who also would command a ridiculous amount of cash and probably wouldn't even be looked at by marvel. Both just suggestions.

Troy Brenna and someone else, whose name I forget, was literally painted green for a few action scenes. Seems they balanced out both methods. Mark definitely did most of the work though.

EDIT: The other guy was named Steve Romm. Here's a pic of him on set.

Andy Serkis is not the only person on the planet able to do mocap.

He's definitely in a class by himself, though, you'd have to agree. No one does the quality of work he does.

That's the problem right there, we make our reference pools too small. We want the same five people for every role.

Adam Sandler might not be up for Groot or Rocket.. Cosmo has been hinted to by James Gunn before when he tweeted this dog space suit image.. I think Sandler as a talking Russian space dog could be fun..

eh, too be honest, adam should not be in any part of this movie. they are trying to expand the MCU even more. This is an important movie, because the villain is possibly being setup for avengers 2, and then some. With GotG being Thanos' first movie, I am having a hard time thinking that the movie can be taken seriously as we expect it to, if Adam sandler is voicing a dog with his stupid voice.

I could accept this argument, if you could actually find any example of Sandler doing a decent take on a Russian accent. Steve Carell's Gru voice would be more ideal for Cosmo.
