People need to let this go. I don't know if I can handle arcade carpet in the bridge.

The shot of the Enterprise plummeting through the clouds is awesome!

Looks like it. It ain't gonna be in great shape after a fall from orbit into the bay (not sure if that is the Enterprise Saucer section hitting the building though...edge looks too thin). They could maybe salvage and restore it I suppose.

And if it is indeed trashed I would not bet on any replacement looking like the previous TOS/Film era ones. As much as I personally prefer the movie refit design over the Abrams one (and I prefer it a lot more tbh) I figure that boat has sailed.

True

There really isn't anything majorly wrong with the JJAbrams Enterprise

I don't think it's the Enterprise hitting the water and crashing to the city, the nacelles are too wide apart to be the JJAbram Enterprise. Looks more like an editing trick to get people to think the Enterprise crashes in the film.

Hopefully Sulu finds a way to pull the big girl back up...

That ship hitting the water looks familiar...is that an NX class ship? (e.g like the Enterprise NX-01)

The SuperBowl TV Spot just makes me dread this movie even more. I'm really not digging the whole TWOK/TDK/TA/SF action-filled rehash they are attempting to sell the movie as. As much as I love Cumberbatch as an actor, I'm really dreading his character. The whole Joker/Loki/Silva moment feels so contrived and overdone. The shot of the blown to hell Enterprise falling through the sky is the epitome of everything wrong with Hollywood these days. Nobody knows what suspense or build-up is anymore. Let's just fill our movies with the most, extreme over-the-top action we can every movie. Seeing the trashed Enterprise falling through the sky like that didn't excite me because that sort of moment hasn't been earned yet. It has no significance because they seem to have tons of moments like that.

Looks like it, doesn't it?

It doesn't look like the (movie's main) Enterprise.

There are also some ships over the city, that don't look Federation.

Looking at it closer I'd say your right. The struts are too long as well. Would also be rather unlike Abrams to reveal a big plot point like the Enterprise really crashing/destroyed in any trailers (ST3 made the mistake of spoiling that iirc).

She's still gonna be in bad shape though looking at the damage sustained in the fall (however long it lasts).

Given the way the Enterprise is built though, couldn't they just replace parts rather easily? Like the nacelles.

Yeah, the shape is similar to the NX class. Could be a later/modern version of that class even though [Trekmode] the NX was just an Akira class starship turned upside down [\Trekmode]

By far Star Trek had the best movie tv super bowl spot this year.

In the comic a certain formerly non cannon character shows up claiming to be the former captain of the enterprise.

My guess is that the shot we saw was the destruction of his Enterprise, not Kirk's.

But the Enterprise is brand new. We see it being built in the first movie... conveniently in Iowa (for some reason).

Which is exactly my point, its not the same ship.

This is from the comic. Again, this is the direct prequel tie in whose sole purpose is to give the backstory for the film, similar to the Countdown comic they did with Nero back in 09, not the on going comic series.

Man, that's one hell of a paint job the Enterprise will need.

I'm really tired of the obligatory "who/what are you?" line that's in every film these days.

If memory serves, they said in the commentary on the DVD for the last movie that it was built in Iowa as a reference to the long standing tradition of building naval ships there.

If your memory is correct, then the writers just made that up. Iowa has no history of naval shipbuilding. It is literally the stupidest place to have a naval shipyard. It is as far away from the coast and, thus, the major industrial centers of the Eastern and Western seaboards as you can get in the Continental US. US Navy ships are built in places like Maine, New York and Connecticut - coastal ports near large urban manufacturing centers. Sorry, but Abrams and gang are full of BS. They did it for plot convenience.

If Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Robert April, could he be from Spock-Prime's universe/timelime?

That's nice.

I think it looks brilliant and highly enjoyable Trek.

He was the captain of the same Enterprise as Kirk. The Enterprise shown falling in the Super Bowl spot is clearly identical to the ship in Star Trek 09. Moreover, it is made clear both in the film and commentaries and special features that Constitution class ships are supposed to be brand spanking new during Star Trek 09. There is no way that Robert April somehow captained a previous Constitution-class USS Enterprise before the construction of Kirk's. If anything, I bet that April took command of the NCC-1701 while it was still under construction but lost the job for some reason before it was spaceworthy and was replaced by Pike. Trek canon has shown plenty of captains getting their ships while they are still fitting out.
