I still have the theory that with Star Wars, JJ is probably not going to use his usual team/crew besides his editors and composer (unless he can get John Williams back). Meaning, I think he'll use Larry Fong (Super 8) instead of Daniel Mindel as his cinematographer. Just to change it up, and differentiate between the two franchise in tone and visually a bit.

Is it canon from the TOS or the comics?

It's canon, it originated though from DS9. But was in many other of the series as well, including Enterprise which takes place before TOS.

There was a premiere in Sydney. A review is up, and it has an interesting tidbit about John Harrison.

Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. All that ******** of him not being Khan and really “John Harrison” was just a cover to hide the truth from moviegoers. Oh, he does go by “John Harrison” in the movie…but that’s not his real name. He reveals his name to Kirk later in the movie.

I followed up on the lead.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

LR hosted the key points:
Some I think it BS.

"he publication also unveils the ending of the film, which it regards as an alternate version of the finale from the film "Wrath of Khan." "Kirk goes down into the radiation in the Budweiser plant and the hands on the glass scene is there, only it's Kirk dying." The publication notes that Kirk dies but "it's established early in the movie that Khan's blood has magical healing properties. He's the Holy Grail in a bottle, basically." How is this established? Early in the film, McCoy injects a dead Tribble with Khan's blood. Once Kirk dies, McCoy sees this Tribble come back to life and realizes that he can in fact save the Captain. Spock and Uhura capture Khan and utilize his blood to save Kirk..."

Magical blood?

Normally, I would call BS, but, I was wrong about the TDKR slides pertaining to the ice. I am almost at the point of calling BS.

Keep in mind that this site did not seethe film; they're going by an imdb review and critiquing knee-to-the-jerk.

The meaningless reveals are getting really old. The name reveals mean absolutely nothing in the context of the story for the characters. The worst trend.

Yeah, I kind of agree with you there. I didn't mind it with Robin in TDK but the Moneypenny thing in Skyfall was pretty silly. They could have just said her name from the get-go and it wouldn't have mattered. Having the "reveal" like that was pretty pointless. (Still loved the movie though.)

A lot of the hard core Trek fans at BBS said it sounds wierd on paper, but is a great film. They said if you liked ST09 you will like this. Again pretty much all of those scenarios.

including the genetic blood that heals

has been in Trek before to some degree. Some do forget that Trek can go far out there a lot, they just sometimes use a lot of Jargon that really does not mean anything but sounds scientific.

Example a quote from one of my favorite Futurama episodes:

Quote:
Fry: Usually on the show, they came up with a complicated plan, then explained it with a simple analogy.
Leela: Hmmm... If we can re-route engine power through the primary weapons and configure them to Melllvar's frequency, that should overload his electro-quantum structure.
Bender: Like putting too much air in a balloon!
Fry: Of course! It's all so simple!
Some of it does sound like fan service mixed around, but one Trek fan that saw it at BBS said it was like playing the greatest hits, but it did it very well, and was extremely emotional.

All the reviews have been positive thus far, so that's a good sign.

The spoilers actully makes me want to see the film.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Khan as villain.Use of section 31 and ripping wrath of khan means they are actully taking things from past Trek and not just Star Wars

It will be called a ripoff of past trek by some but that's not a bad thing.
At least writers went to past Trek for influence.

If John Harrison is Khan, there is going to be egg on a lot of faces of those who wouldn't accept it was the most likely scenario for the longest time. It is actually pretty funny.

I just read a few spoilers. Kind of annoying that I had guessed most of them already. Specifically the Section 31 and Marcus stuff.

To be fair, like what Solidus said, it may look convoluted on paper but within context be awesome.

Essentially, but it's not the same plot. They took a lot from TWOK it sounds like, but they didn't just simply switch characters around. Which is what makes it interesting. It sounds like a really good movie, but I still wish they wouldn't have tried TWOK again, since almost every other Trek movie has done just that.
