I've been worried about that. I like long tenures for my Trek crews, and this cast is especially enjoyable to watch. I know they're contracted for another movie after this, but it seems actors rarely want to be in the same role beyond that point anymore. Hell, Quinto's already openly talked about not wanting to do things like this anymore.

The 9/11 microcosm didn't work.

I think some of them may not want to become pigeonholed like the original cast did.

What affects Quinto are his eyebrows and how he has to shave them for the film(s). Otherwise, he hasn't done a whole lot besides more TV work. He's lucky to have Star Trek.

Then again, his comment about not wanting to do more Star Treks were taken out of context too.

With the 3rd film, and I do think they will. The only people Paramount will keep as producers will be JJ and Bryan Burke. I can't see them wanting to keep Orci and Kurtzman.

And like the Mission Impossible films, I think the studio will play it by ear, per movie. Let's say a miracle happens and somehow part 3 is a decent hit..then they can go onto doing a part 4. I don't think this series will last 7 movies with the same cast but I can see two more. But it depends on the $$$.

All 4 will be producers in name-only, if I had to guess.

About Orci, I don't know what he supposedly did wrong and quite frankly don't care for whatever it is. It seems to me that the movie will make it's budget back and a bit more. How much was spent on the marketing for this movie?

Well, many of them have TV shows or movies outside Star Trek, so they aren't using this franchise as their sole income but I think more as a stepping stone to other opportunites down the line.

It wouldn't surprise me if Paramount pulls a 20th Century Fox and locks Abrams and Bad Robot out of Paramount. I really don't know how Paramount feels about this, but I doubt they even let him have an active role on the next movie.

Honestly surprises me that the movie isn't doing bigger business overseas the way Paramount markets this thing. I mean GI JOE 2 has almost made $250 million overseas and the movie is a mediocre mess.

I don't know. Bad Robot has done more good than bad with Paramount, plus they have Mission Impossible 5 coming up. If Para chose to 'lock them out', then I think that's foolish.

It's like dropping Spielberg from your slate after '1941'. I'm not saying that Star Trek into Darkness is 1941, mind you.

Octoberist, this is Hollywood we are talking about. Fences were eventually mended, but Paramount publicly "fired" Tom Cruise after MI:3. They blamed the movie's poor performance on his wacko "career suicide" behavior.

I mean yeah they eventually did MI:4, but that still happened in the six years in between.

Into Darkness - 13-Day Total:
$159,452,337

Star Trek 11 - 13-Day Total:
$158,653,970

Not bad.

My sentiments exactly, not bad. U can't spin those numbers to be bad cuz they're not...sure maybe a bit disappointing based off "what could have been" or maybe what some would say "should have been", but nonetheless not bad.

Keep in mind that is 4 years ago without inflation and 3D ticket prices. Also chances are with the heavy competition, it won't be able to match the final domestic number of 2009.

They have a good two weeks left of no competition. This week has the horrible After Earth and next week is the Purge and Intership. I don't think any of those will be blockbusters.

This film's saving grace is its word of mouth. It continues to get amazing reviews and buzz. People genuinely love the film, and I think it's going to have legs. It may not top 2009, but it's definitely nowhere near "flop territory."

The only bad reviews I've heard are from are cranky internet bloggers. Everywhere else I go, people are raving about it.

I would safely venture a guess that we've made enough to warrant another...all should be well. I'm just hoping if they do move forward that the wait isn't as long this time around...

The studio is probably happy but cautious. It's sort of by the grit of its teeth that this film has managed to actually do pretty decent.

Studios these days want big results right away though, so films that lack big OW are usually seen as less worthy if you can put it that way.

Hopefully they'll fast track the third movie for a 2015 or 2016 release!
