I love that idea. Following Han and Leia's daughter would be a perfect way to have the old cast and have an interesting female lead.

Allana Solo is Han and Leia's granddaughter. Her father was Jacen Solo aka Darth Caedus.

They could easily use Allana Solo, her aunt Jaina, and Ben Skywalker as the main protagonists of the ST. They could simultaneously preserve the EU up to the point of the upcoming Crucible and Sword of the Jedi trilogy. Crucible is being tagged as sort of the last big hurrah of Han, Luke and Leia. And Sword of the Jedi is focused on Jaina Solo(Sword of the Jedi is her Force-bestowed title), and Ben Skywalker.

The convergence of the two worlds is kind of a perfect place. The EU timeline has set up the OT characters at an age that makes sense for the actors to reprise their roles and to pass the torch. And it has given them ready made younger characters to bear the torch. Jaina is in the 30s, Ben is around 20, and Allana will be a pre-teen.

I'll throw Saoirse Ronan's name in the ring.

There should be a young lead but she should be trained by Ahsoka Tano.

Rooney Mara could play an adult Ahsoka.

If Rooney Mara was the female lead in a Star Wars film then that is something I could be interested in.

It would be interesting. But i don't know if Rooney could pull it off. She usually does dark characters. See side effects and GWDT. Now, I do think she could be a good secondary character. A new Han Solo smuggler esque character for her i think would be really cool.

I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead would be interesting too.

I just don't want the whole cast to be the offspring of the OT characters. I want a band of people coming together. People from different backgrounds, which can offer interesting dynamics.

MEW would be good, too.

And agreed. Have a Solo or a Skywalker and expand the roster.

Yeah, I don't mind having one offspring. Not two or three. It'll be boring, and Narnia like. Of course it depends on the writing

I wish we knew how much they'll contradict the EU (if at all). That would give us an idea about the kids. Luke being a monk eradicated his wedding to MJ and Ben. But I think it's gonna be pretty certain that Han and Leia got together (maybe even married) after RotJ. So the Solo kids would be a bigger possibility.

After much research, it seems like the EU pretty much destroyed itself and jumped the shark the moment Chewie died. He didn't die because of a narrative emotion, but just as a marketing ploy because everyone knew that the well went empty with the EU universe at that point.

Well, it was definitely a gimmick (and those idiots wanted to off Luke originally but Lucas said no), but one that was handled extremely well in the following books. And I still maintain that the 19 NJO book series is the best SW stuff I've seen or read in a long time (excluding the best episodes of TCW). It evolved the universe, but it still felt classic. They did take a couple terrible decisions, though, like killing off Anakin Solo for the most stupid of all reasons.

The books after NJO? Yeah, it's best that we forget...

Well, at this point, I think it's so far into the future, so far past ROTJ that there's an obvious disconnect. I think Star Wars Legacy works because it takes place even further that you almost have a clean slate because the Skywalker connection. That's why 'The Old Republic' works: Clean slate.

Legacy's writing doesn't do it for me (they didn't seem to know where they were going with it, although I love Cade), but I get you, and I agree.

However, Ep7 will definitely have to be set very soon after the Legacy of the Force series, if they intend to keep the EU intact. Which means only Jaina and Ben. Hey... that kinda works things out.

I reckon she'd be totally awesome, she's got the acting chops for sure and frankly I'd love to see her in an action type role. Granted she's not the tallest girl on the planet but it wouldn't really matter given Jedi come in all shapes, sizes and species.

Is it blasphemy to want a protagonist who isn't related to Luke? Him being in the movie would be fine (great, even) but I'd be curious to see them do something new with the protagonist.

No it wouldn't be blasphemous though I would like to see Luke in a supporting role. I also hope that they keep the warmth and 'oh shucks' personality intact. Or carry a certain charm and humor that OT Obi and Yoda had. The thing that I hated about the prequels was how stoic the Jedi were; despite Obi being a 'rebel' of the group, it's not enough. Hopefully old Luke will feel the same as the Luke from the OT but older and wiser.

Definitely. Luke would make a good Jedi leader. The friendly monk type. The Jedi in the prequel trilogy come off more like the Vatican.

I have to say, while the EU does have some good ideas and characters, I always viewed it more as glorified fanfiction.

If height is the issue, then look no further than how Hollywood makes Cruise work. But I reckon it shouldn't be a factor for a SW character. Anna is one of the best young actresses working right now. And she oozes charisma. She's just have to get rid of her inherent goofiness, depending on the needs of the character she'd have to play, of course.
