I think most humans are homophobic, or at least a sizable chunk. I think it may be an evolutionary mechanism of some sort. A genetic disinclination. I'm surprised there hasn't been more scientific study into it.

What I did find fascinating was that apparently gay people have the same reaction to heterosexuality (or displays of it). It makes them uncomfortable. Although since they're taught from birth that it's the norm, it's probably subdued.

With the religions and their homophobic sentiment, I think it's a chicken egg situation. People aren't homophobic because of a Bible passage. It's the other way around.
That's true that gay people have the same reaction. But I still don't agree that most fear gays. Why is it so hard for people to understand that some just disagree?

Because for so many it isn't "just" disagreeing, it's also supporting discrimination.

like i said previously on the subject... Homophobia isn't "OMG GAYS I'M GOING TO GO HIDE UNDER MY BED"

it's more about what tags along with it...

-Fear of your religion being wrong (if they were born that way)

-Fear of Sin (depending on your religious beliefs)

-Fear that your children may be gay

-Fear that you may be gay, and are afraid of what others think so you take it out on other gays

-Fear of uncomfortably, basically if you've never been around it you may feel uncomfortable because you're not use to it, and do not like that situation.

-Fear that it will mean the downfall of society

-Fear that your own insecurities or thoughts will be reflected back upon you (basically you think dirty thoughts about girls you see, and you fear another guy is thinking them about you, which makes you feel uncomfortable, etc...)

those are all examples of why the term "Homophobia" actually works.

For MOST it has nothing to do with fear or even hatred They simply DISAGREE with the lifestyle. I donít agree with it either. You are going to find there are a lot of things in life where we all donít agree.
This makes no sense. What is there to agree or disagree about?

Gay people exist. They date people of the same sex. They form relationships.

These are all facts, not questionable assertions that's asking whether or not you agree with them. So what is there to agree or disagree about? Unless you think gay people are like the loch ness monster. I don't agree that's nessy on grandma's bootleg video tape recorder from 30 years ago.

I remember a long while back I had a girlfriend that was a hardcore vegan. I didnít agree with her lifestyle and she didnít agree with my view of it, but that didnít stop us from having mutual respect for each others opinions. She didnít expect either of us to compromise our beliefs in order to agree with the other. We agreed to disagree.
So just like you dated a vegan that you didn't agree with, perhaps next you will date a gay man and it's all cool as long as you agree to disagree!?!

They're saying they don't morally approve of homosexuality...which is their right.

You do realize that the people who think being gay is a choice (and therefore disagree with it), are the same people who insist that global warming is a conspiracy theory, and that the world is less than 10,000 year old, right?

If you want them to convince them that being gay is a biological fact, get in line behind the biologists, cosmologists, and climate scientists.

Texas judge orders lesbian couple to live apart or lose custody of their children.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/05/1...lose-children/

So big on "family values" yet splitting up a family. Interesting...frankly I'd say the lesbians are the ones showing the family values in this situation.

Well, that's one way to get yourself reelected.

Still, this case could prove quite problematic in the long run for the courts.

I would say "**** you, Texas, I'm taking my taxes elsewhere," but I bet there's a clause in the divorce papers that prevent her from maintaining custody if she leaves the county or state.

It's what's screwing over my best friend and my sister. They're spouses have kids by others, and they can't move because of the divorces.

Hmm, honestly, as insane as it sounds, I think it could survive a higher court challenge. At least from an equal protection suit. Due Process challenge, maybe not (although I'm not really sure how it would be attacked on the basis of the DPC...maybe depriving right of property?).

After figuring out that electroshock therapy and gay conversion therapy didn’t really work, a Catholic seminary in Wynnewood, PA has come up with yet another suggestion on how to force grown men into changing their sexuality. You know, because they chose it in the first place.

The organization, run by Father Paul Check, is planning the 14th year of a weeklong Catholic “sports camp,” which will help men to shed their homosexual desires through playing contact sports with other barely-clothed, sweaty, and presumably sexy gay men.
This makes even less sense than conversion camps usually do.

That's right on several fronts. Despite all its faults, official Catholic doctrine is that homosexuality cannot be changed.

They consider it an incurable inherent disorder, which is why there usually aren't any re-education camps run by the Catholic church.

To be fair, I have noticed that American Catholics for better or worse often seem out of touch with the Church's official positions.

Remember Rick Santorum?

I don't know whether or not to be disgusted or find this to be the most hilariously awesome thing since Marcus Bachmann.

Marcus Bachmann is like Elton John preaching gay conversion therapy.

$100 says he "cured" himself so now thinks he can do it to other people.
