That's what everyone (including me) said about Zack Snyder but he seems to have delivered with MOS. A solid script plus a director with visual flair could be the winning combination Batman needs.

Bit of an "off the wall" suggestion, but how about Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad fame.

Thank you.

I wouldn't be surprised if the movie is garbage.

Still excited for it though.

That's why I said "he seems to have delivered with MOS" not "he has delivered with MOS."

I would select Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive.

Oblivion was the best movie I've seen in months. The real reason critics have tried to railroad the film is because of its motifs and anti-illuminati metaphors. It used to be that critics thought that a film that was atmospheric, took its time, and offered beautiful compositions was thought as good. These critics would apparently hate 2001.

Drive was brilliant in its subtlety. It's a film you either get or you don't. There doesn't seem to be a grey area.

Rian Johnson is my pick.

Refn would be fantastic but he's too bold of a director I feel. He would probably only do it with Gosling as the lead, so I doubt it would work out. The plus side is he would be able to bring Cranston on board for Gordon no problem.

Then again, so would Rian Johnson! Since he's directed episodes of Breaking Bad.

Rian Johnson would be awesome. He's a huge Nolan fan too- which is a good thing. He'd respect the trilogy too much to do any sort of cheap imitation of it.

Of course, any director worth his salt is going to want to his their own stamp to the franchise.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's what I hate about Drive. People think there's deeper meaning to it because it holds on shots entirely too long.

LOL not at all. This is a long 20 minute video, but it's a PERFECT explanation in every way. If you, or anybody else who didn't like Drive want to understand why people love the film..seriously check this out. It might change your perspective. And a good watch for fans too.

drive is a simple incredibly well photographed and directed b movie and it revels in its b movieness. refn and gosling understood what the movie was about, a man who communicates through violence. the fact that refn understood that is a testament to his talent and respect for genre film. thats what batman needs someone who will take the property and treat it with respect and with seriousness. That was the basis of chris nolans philosophy and it appears based on my interpretation of the things ive seen of MOS that is what dc wants to make their movie-verse about the man not the super that kind of naturalism will be what the next batman will probably have as its back bone.
so having said that my preferred directors would be
tomas alfredson
refn
joe carnahan
hughes brothers
paul thomas Anderson

would be interesting
martin scorsese
spike jonze

Not a deeper meaning. It's a higly stylized film , that is able to create and hold an atmosphere. Either you are able to embrace that moody style , or you don't. Subtleness works also within the realm of visual/sound , and not only in thematic context.

What i hated about Drive was it's budget. You want to be Artsy Fartsy with 13 million ? And you dare call your movie art house or anything other than "mainstream". It was a good movie but very, very, very pretentious.

Anyway Refn could do a great job but im not sure i want to see his version. I want something a bit more cinematic but gritty at the same time.

Neil Blomkamp anyone ?

I quite like his films though and i think his work suits a Batman Arkham styled movie. Del Toro is another director that would suit an Arkham style movie.

A name like Gosling would make execs at Warner feel safe about rebooting.

Refn also directed Tom Hardy in Bronson; which he also wrote. He can direct/write both fight scenes and car chases.

No more off the wall than in 2003 to suggest that up and coming director who directed that black and white noir film called Memento
