I'm considering dropping Avengers completely...I want to keep reading it but I'm not willing to sacrifice the Spidey and X-Men titles I'm loving. Double shipping is killing me...
I thought about using Marvel's print subscription for Avengers and trying it out. I've never done a comic subscription before...

Yeah I considered doing it for Superior but then I saw it said it takes six to eight weeks for the first issue to arrive so I thought about doing it for something I don't always get the feel to go buy instantly and don't mind being a little behind on.

And from what I saw at the Marvel site, it's about 40% off cover price... so a $3.99 book will cost you about $2.42... ![]() Free shipping in the US. In another thread, JHobbit said his May bill will be $91... but he's only pay $55 if he had those delivered to his house via subscription.

I think its around 24$ to 28$ for 12 issues. Its just such a long wait for the first issue.

At those prices, you could almost buy the issue at your LCS if you can't wait, even if you get a double...
Though chances are if you sign up now, your first issue would be March's or April's issue, so you'd have to buy the current issues at your LCS anyway. The way I've always understood it, it just takes that long to process your account in the begining.

Wow that sounds great though, you're cutting your budget by about 45%. I wouldn't mind waiting a month or two for the first issue if it meant lowering my expenses from $100 to $65 or less, and saving gas by not having to drive to my LCS.

I've never done it because the shipping expenses to Canada are ridiculous... but at those prices, I'd be all over it as an American.

Dang... that's tempting. I'm going to have to look into this while I'm sitting on my income tax money. The big issue for me is getting up enough of a lump sum to pay for the things up front. Does DC offer a similar service?

Well, I did the math. Not including Thanos Rising, Phantom Stranger, or Batman Incorporated (because they aren't offered) the rest of my book subscriptions would cost me $540.81. For 12 issues of each of those titles, I'd save $299.00.
That's pretty good. I'm considering it, as money's tight and getting tighter and that $300 could be put to much better use (aka... bills). I wouldn't have the money to renew those Marvel subscriptions due to their double shippings making them end prior to my next income tax, but it'd be a nice relief in the wallet for however long 12 issues last. I'll have to consider it.

The downside of it all is that I like the comic shop experience. I'd still have to go for Phantom Stranger, Thanos Rising, and Batman Incorporated, as well as Infinity or anything else that comes out between now and 12 issues from now, but I HATE making the 30 minute drive for just an issue or two. It's almost not worth the drive.

So make a monthly trip... you get to still skim the rack... get your LCS guy to put stuff aside that you might be interested in...

I'm probably going to test it out on Avengers and get the rest of my stuff at my LCS, there is two stores on the same street I like to go to. One of them is actually a used book store that sells new comics and has alot of good prices on normal books too. 5$ hardcovers and 2$ paperbacks! I don't read just comics!
![]() Plus they have a life size Red Hulk and R2-D2 to greet you when you walk in.

Yeah Ock, my pull list is pretty small. Pretty much just Avengers, New Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, Thunderbolts, anything Punisher, and events. I trade-wait a couple other titles like Uncanny X-Force and Venom. With rising prices, I've had to cut some of the weaker titles. Iron Man went first. Then Secret Avengers (with Spencer). Next to go may soon be Thunderbolts.

The art is definitely hurting the book. I had a lengthy discussion with the owner of my local comic book store about Dillon and he noted that many readers had complained about the art. Noto's taking over in a few months, and that should help the book, but Way's writing is mediocre at best. The only thing keeping me on the title is my love for the Punisher and Venom/Flash.

The book just needs a new writer...
'Nuff said.

Interesting concept, great characters, poor execution. I don't think Thunderbolts has been exceptionally bad, per say, but I'd be hard pressed to consider the book good.

It's not a top ten on my comic list for sure, but it's not atrocious when compared to some others

I wanted to try Thunderbolts, but I refuse to pay for anything Daniel Way's attached to at this point.
