I'd say Die Hard. It's more epic. Except 4. And now probably 5.
Bruce Willis is heading into Steven Segal territory. |

Both great franchises that spawned mediocre sequels. But Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance take the cake over Lethal Weapon 1 & 2. I'd rank them like this:
1. Die Hard (4.5 stars) 2. Die Hard with a Vengeance (4 stars) 3. Lethal Weapon (4 stars) 4. Lethal Weapon 2 (3 stars) 5. Die Hard 2 (2.5 stars) 6. Lethal Weapon 3 (2 stars) 7. Lethal Weapon 4 (2 stars) 8. Live Free or Die Hard (2 stars) 9. A Good Day to Die Hard (1 star) |

Lethal Weapon is a mixture of action and noir.

Yeah. Lethal Weapon has some noir elements, but there's no way you can't call it an action movie.

This is very true, it's a bit like comparing apples and oranges really.

I've always liked the Die Hard movies better than Lethal Weapon.
Lethal Weapon is noir? You could have fooled me. More like a comedy. |

The first one has noir elements but I wouldn't call it noir. Shane Black probably wouldn't either. |

Lethal Weapon all the way. LW3 was kinda dumb, and LW4 was only good because of jet lee and the idea that it was "nice to see the gang again", but the first two flicks are fantastic.

I love the first Die Hard the best but the Leathal Weapon franchise has two classic movies (the first and second). Die Hard has only one classic even though the second and third are alot of fun.
Lethal Weapon has the slight edge.

One can make the argument that Lethal Weapon 2 is superior to Lethal Weapon. Hell, Donner, Glover, and Gibson all say the second one is their favorite of the franchise.

I voted Die Hard because I enjoy the movies more, but I think Lethal Weapon works much better as a package. The characters grow and there's a nice definitive ending to the series. Die Hard might get a nice ending yet, but I doubt it can wrap up quite as nicely as Lethal Weapon did.

It's certainly my least favorite. It was a test for the LW3 and 4 formula and it suffered because Shane Black and Richard Donner clashed.

I like both franchises , but Die Hard is the best action film of all time. Although Lethal Weapon might benefit from not returning. The latest Die Hard films are starting to piss off fans and hurt it's legacy. At least Lethal Weapon 4 gave us Jet Li.

Would have to go with Die Hard, 1 and 3 were superb, 2 and 4 were okay as well. For me, The LW series hasnt aged well at all either, were as the Die Hard movies havent really IMO.

I looked at 3 other polls the same as this one, and all of them had Die Hard winning by a landslide. I'm actually pretty surprised it's closer than I thought it would be in this forum. Die Hard 1 is just in a whole other level.

This is a tough call, the first film in each series pretty much defines their respective action sub-genre. Lethal Weapon 2 loses a bit of the raw edge the first had but is still miles ahead of Die Hard 2. Die Hard rebounded with it's 3rd movie while Lethal Weapon kept it's ship relatively steady and tried to throw in a socially aware storyline. The 4th Die Hard is my favourite since the first, the 4th Lethal Weapon is more comedy than anything and the older domesticated Riggs just doesn't work that well for me.....However Die Hard 5 is so far below any of the previous 8 films that I couldn't imagine a Lethal Weapon 5 being any worse.
My vote goes to Die Hard simply because McClane is one of the greatest characters ever created, up there with Bond and Indy, and while Riggs & Murtaugh are very good I don't have them as high.

Interesting, I didn't know that, wasn't Under Siege originally set to be Die Hard 3?

Die Hard has two great entries, Lethal Weapon only has the first one.
Also, Die Hard only has one terrible entry (opened this weekend). Lethal Weapon has several.

It originally was a standalone Brandon Lee movie until the actor tragically died. Then it was considered for LW4. But do not hold that against it. All of the Die Hard films except the most recent one are based on stories or screenplays originally meant as separate standalones before McClane was added.

The first Die Hard was supposed to be a sequel to Commando.

I really haven't seen any of the LW movies...always felt I be cheating on the Die Hard series.
Kinda like how I really am not in Star Trek, cause I saw the Star Wars movies first. Although I recall seeing some of TNG show as a kid, and seen of of their movies, I am not a Trekkie.
