I think EVC/Sharon's role largely deals with Robert Redford's character considering they'll both be involved with SHIELD and we've seen set pictures of neither. A sort of Maria Hill vs. World Security Council in Avengers type situation.

I don't see that. Would it have been a problem if it were two male SHIELD agents?

I'm sure they could have had a Sharon with valuable skills that Natasha doesn't have.

But Marvel was in control of that. They could have cast a name actress as Sharon, and with the Avengers' massive success, they could have had their pick as well.

I hope they do it better than it was in the Avengers.

Here's a theory; maybe they could present SC as being someone who's like, the opposite of what BW is, in the sense where unlike BW, Sharon doesn't have a red ledger that she needs to clean, let alone a dark history to keep as a secret. She could even be on the bad end with BW where she doesn't agree with how BW does things, let alone trusts her, due to BW's ambiguity and shady background as a former assassin.

I guess the question is: then why didn't they?? I think we're all scratching our heads trying to figure out how these chess pieces are being moved, because a lot of what we do know doesn't make sense or clearly isn't complete.

Why cast EVC and then refuse to call her anything other than Agent 13? Why was Hayley in LA for so long for a "cameo"? What's the through-line on Steve's emotional state? I want to see some Cap angst, dammit!

Well, no. You said that Black Widow is a bigger role than Sharon because Scarjo is a bigger actress than EVC. I say that line of thought is incorrect.

Actors are cast based on the role as written, not the other way around.

They haven't actually refused to do that. They made the press release, and that was that. No one's ever asked them if Agent 13 is indeed Sharon Carter.

She was filming the her Peggy short film.

Also, she could have been working on some other movie, or campaigning to get a role, or going to auditions for non-Marvel movies.

Yes, interviewers have asked that, and they get a "no comment" in return.

Not exactly.

They asked about whether or not Sharon was a prominent role. Not whether or not Agent 13 is really Sharon.

And sure, "no comment" could be because the interviewer specifically asked about Sharon, as opposed to Agent 13. It could also be because that it is Sharon, but they don't want to tell people how big or small her role will be.

Maybe Agent 13 will be revealed to be Sharon nearer to the end of the film, thus making it sense that her role is small yet leaving big things open for Cap 3

It could end up being a role like Brandt's in Iron Man 3 .

Everyone thought she was playing Janet Van Dyne or something.

Emily VanCamp is the lead actress in a popular ABC (aka Disney) TV show and her role is OFFICIALLY "Agent 13." The situation is a lot different from the Szostak one.

Just saying, people thought because of Szostak was so high up on cast listings they thought it meant she had to be playing someone important.

Szostak's role was never announced or hyped or defined; it's just that fanwank went into overdrive speculating who she was or how important she might be.

EVC has *officially* been announced as Agent 13, and as "the love interest." We all *presume* that means Sharon Carter, because the math clearly adds up. We still don't know how *big* a role that will be, but we at least know *who* she'll play, and what role she'll serve in relation to Cap.

That's the no. 1 rule of comic book movie fandom. If a young attractive actress is cast in an unknown role, she'll instantly be believed to actually be playing a major character.

The worst offender is an actress who had two lines of dialogue as a mobster's mistress in The Dark Knight, but for months, it was hotly debated whether she was Catwoman or Harley.

She hasn't been officially announced as the love interest, just stories by Deadline.

Maybe the scope of her role has changed .

Someone on Tumblr message me that EVC has been back in the states since at least the start of the month. Gone to Cleavland, though? Who knows? I'm not holding my breath, but at least it's something.

Steve seems to be suffering from the same problem that Rogue has, where he can't seem to get past the first kiss with someone.lol

We don't know that.
After this kiss with Tasha, they very well may go full-on bow-chicka-wow-wow. 90-Year Old Virgin No More.

The potential pairing of Steve and Natasha is an unique one in the sense where both of their backgrounds contradict each other; one is known for having been an legendary war hero and the other is known for having carried out several killings as an hired gun in her past.

Not to mention the political implications, although that's not nearly as pronounced as it would have been, say, in the 1980s.

Has any of the online film trades been as wrong with any of the past Marvel movies as they've been with EVC as "the female lead"?
