Han Solo will have a significant role in this movie. I'm guessing they'll kill his character off at the end of the movie.

Seeing these familiar faces getting offed would sure pack an emotional wallop.

Maybe this is Harrison's way of getting the closure he originally wanted for the character.

I agree. I hope their deaths(if it does happen) aren't something silly, but more heroic than anything. Somebody brought up something in another thread about Chewie sacrificing himself to save Han's kids. I don't think I'd make it through that scene without sheding a tear.

Does this compare to Ford returning as Indy in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

It's bigger because Ford has always tried to distance himself from Stsr Wars and it wasn't till recently he started to embrace it.

Besides Ford always loved Indy as a character. His starring role afterall.

My excitement for Episode VII grows with every bit of news...and it started at a pretty high pitch as soon as it was announced, lol.

As an older man, Ford looks good for his age. And he's still in great shape. I'm more worried about his acting but I know that JJ can bring out the best in him. Even more so than Spielberg most recently with the nasty Indy 4.

First off, this may be just a rumor. Until Lucasfilm or Starwars.com reports it, I'm leaning towards just a rumor. Now, let's pretend it's true. Ford returning to the role of Han Solo doesn't mean the acting or the movie will be good. Anyone remember the last Indiana Jones movie?? Yes, I do agree that the original actors returning to their roles will help.

Hopefully, from the perspective of an EU reader, what it means is that the story picks up after Troy Denning's upcoming Crucible, and Christie Golden's upcoming Sword of the Jedi trilogy.... and the heroes of the ST will be Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker. They are at a perfect place for the actors to portray the characters as they are said to be in the current timeline and we've already got a new generation for them to pass the baton to.

New original story doesn't mean characters can't be used. New, original, story means the STORY won't be an adaptation or translation or based upon a previously told story in any other media. So they could make Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker the heroes of the sequel trilogy and not tell a story that has already been told. Seen?

The reason why Indy 4 failed to most people is due to the script and half-hearted directing from the Beard.

I think this may be the best idea or a bad idea. Not sure - but it seems to me that they're afraid to not tie this to the OT which could backfire or tying it to the OT will bring things full circle. Who knows.

I feel bad for the guys making this film. I imagine it's such a 'walk on eggshells' type feeling.

Ford will do just fine if he returns, though. He was great in the last Indy and despite that being 5 years ago (wow, already?), he should be in good shape still. He looks good at least.

Hopefully this second outing of Ford returning to an old character can help deliver a film that can at least come close Indy's 79% at RottenTomatoes and 69 at MetaCritic. If it could, then that'd be a good surprise for fans. It worked for Indy, so maybe Star Wars could benefit?

Glad to see Ford embracing Han Solo, I'm sure SW fandom appreciates it.

Yea, because that wouldn't forever taint the OT more than it already has been or anything...

Am I the only one who finds the idea of seeing old, fat, decrepit Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford showing up 30 years later as "Luke", "Leia", and "Han" depressing?

I doubt it.

Carrie's lost quite a bit of weight, but poor Mark hasn't looked like himself in quite some time - mostly due to the accident damage catching up with him coupled with aging and weight gain which happens at his age. Harrison still looks good but he's still an older guy now.

I just hope they don't have the whole thing come across as contrived by having them in it.

This could go either very good or very badly. No in between.

I think Mark Hamill is probably a bit protective of Luke, like he was with the Joker. If there is a role for him, I believe that he'd do what he can to get into shape.

True. He's very protective - I know he'd slim down but there isn't exactly alot of time to do that, unfortunately. He'd have to know NOW if he was coming back in order to get going.

But you never know.

I'll hazard a guess and say Hamill would have known sometime before the announcement the there was possibility that he might be needed.
