Default Die Hard 6

Now that most of us are trying to make the 5th film a distant memory I thought we could look forwards to how they can give McClane a suitable final chapter.

The first thing I'd do is remove any out and out sidekick ideas, McClane has always had a degree of help along the way but he was almost a supporting character in the 5th.

I'm torn on whether a 6th should stay mobile or go back to a single setting, perhaps they can find a single setting that allows for a degree of mobility.

Another big thing that is required is a good villain, I thought Timothy Olyphant was decent but McClane needs someone more on his level verbally, imagine Cristoph Watlz as a Die Hard villain. I also want to see a good henchman/woman that matches up to Karl or Mai.

On the director front I'd favour Shane Black (writing as well) but could see Joe Carnahan, Gareth Evans or David Ayer making a good Die Hard movie and if they want to go back to being a big summer blockbuster release then Justin Lin would be a good pick.

.........Oh, and set it at Christmas.

I haven't even seen the movie, but from what I'm hearing, I'm not sure another Die Hard is even a good idea. I'll withhold my final opinion until after I've seen the latest movie, but this series might be done.

Some of your suggestion would be a good start for getting the series back on track, though.

Must-haves:

1. Single location, a la Die Hard and Die Hard 2
2. People in danger
3. Mclane reluctant heroism, sarcasm, and one-liners
4. A British trained actor for the central villain, as Rickman and Irons were
5. The villain doesn't take Mclane seriously
6. Clever villain deaths
7. Action sequences should be edge-of-your seat, but should not make Mclane superhuman
8. No sidekick with Mclane all the time, though an Al Powell level sidekick is okay

Would-be-cool-to-haves

1. Holly Mclane back
2. Lucy Mclane back

Having not seen the new DH yet, probably over the weekend, but I just want a DH film as good as the first one. A sixth one has to just be about McClane, no side kicks or whatever. I'm mean of course he's had help, but McClane must be the focus. Go back to the first one on how to handle a DH film. Also a good, smart script would be perfect.

I'm sure Shane Black would be a great director for a DH film, and maybe Joe Carnahan too. Does the original director still make movies? Maybe for a final sixth one he should come back for it?

I think they just don't want to show McClane's ex-wife since the actress is in her 60's now and that's too old for the studios I guess.

The series needs Shane Black.

There was actually a screenplay on the 2008 Black List (the best unproduced screenplays of the year) called Motorcade. It was about the President's motorcade being attacked while on the move. It would be interesting to put McClane in the car with the President. As if they were going to an award ceremony where McClane was getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in shutting down Gabriel from Live Free or Die Hard.

There will be another one. Die Hard 5 looked like a terrible movie from the previews and the reviews and GA reaction alike confirmed it. But as long as Willis is willing, there will be more.

You see I do not think that we need all those rehashes from the first. Die Hard 3 was much better than Die Hard 2 and it wasn't a remake of the first. It just needs to be a good story that, as you say, makes McClane a reluctant underdog. Tone down the mayhem and make it more concentrated and "real" (in the most vague sense of the word) like the first and third did. It doesn't need to follow the same formula.

Though yes a great Brit actor as the villain would be nice again.

Also, seeing Lucy back would be nice.

The one I liked about Die Hard's 1-3 was that aside from McClane there were also the supporting players that were there to move the story forward and make it seem like the threat was encompassing the world over.

It looks like Die Hard 5 will be a financial success so they can likely make a sixth one.

But let's just pray John Moore has nothing to do with it.

I'll just be honest - they need to get Gary Oldman to be the next Die Hard villain.

The bad guy needs to be on par with the Grubers from 1st and 3rd movies.

It needs to be two hours.

A Hard R.

It really needs to have a subplot and a henchmen like in 1st and 3rd movies.

I think Len Wiseman could get *some of that*, but I doubt it. Outside of running time and subplot that is.

Its been suggested many many times on SHH in the other Die Hard thread. I like the idea as well, but only if 6 is going to be the last film.

Ah okay. It's perfect for a final Die Hard title.

This has had too many sequels as it is.

Get that middle-aged bald mother****er to brow-beat M. Night into an Unbreakable sequel. Now THAT would be worth seeing, provided M. Night is on his game. Since that seems unlikely, maybe just give it to someone worthwhile.
