Jack the Giant Slayer's budget is $195 million and it hasn't even grossed more than $50 million at worldwide box-office.

So The Call is a bigger hit compare to Jack the Giant Slayer's performance at the box-office.

Ouch! In the words of George Costanza, "that's gotta hurt!"

Because Halle is what we call a "safe" negro. She can make demands because she is more accepted amongst the "white folk" than her darker counterparts

All the Hollywood trade sites are going a bit crazy, haha. Congrats to Berry for proving some folks wrong.

That's because of the prevalence of gossip sites/magazines that focus on the latest spray-tanned reality TV non-entity with zero talent but great tits. They love Halle's glamour, personal life dramas and the whole love/hate aura that she has.

The Call should certainly help her get better roles in the future. A movie made with a very modest budget with nothing but Halle as the main draw opening second and beating Burt wonderstone despite the combines star power of Steve Carrel and Jim Carrey (arguably bigger stars than her,) this should definitely get her noticed by Hollywood producers who should start putting her back on casting lists. All she needs is another box office success and she's back in the game. Depending on how big her role is in Dofp that should be enough.

It's a shame that talented, beautiful actresses of colour such as Halle, Viola Davis and the rest are not getting good movie roles. They deserve better.

Heading into the weekend, box office observers believed The Call, which was in a relatively low 2,507 theaters, would find itself in a close race with Burt Wonderstone for No. 2. But the R-rated thriller, from Sony and TriStar, quickly pulled ahead thanks in part to an ethnically diverse audience.
The Call, fueled by women, is a victory for Berry, with nearly half of the audience citing the actress as the chief draw. It also reaffirms Sony's strong track record at promoting genre films, whether through TriStar or Screen Gems.

"We fired on all cylinders," said Sony president of distribution Rory Bruer. "And certainly, you have to give big kudos to all who were involved in promoting the film, including Berry, who did an incredible job."

I'm not sure it's even a case of Halle not getting good movie roles, or not being considered for them anymore. It's nowhere near as simple as that.

Even at the very height of her fame and success, when any studio would have been happy to cast Oscar-winning Halle Berry in their film, she made appalling choices.

I mean, the woman agreed to star in 'Gigli' for crying out loud!

^ Thank god she was contracted to return for X2 a much better more satisfying role.

But I still think that Halle's race is still an issue. There aren't a lot of roles made for Black actresses. If you look at her filmography you'll see that the majority of the roles she's played our black characters, she's played very few non-race specific roles and some of them she has to fight for. And I mean proper fight.

I hope she gets a decent break with the success of The Call proving that she can open a movie with nothing but her star power.

A movie I would like to see her in is the long overdue Nefertiti movie. She was attached to star with Marc Foster (Monster's Ball) attached to direct. They were planning the story as late as 2007 but I haven't heard of that project since. I think now is the time for her to do that. She can gather an A list cast for the supporting roles with herself as the lead. I can easily see it doing very well. They just need a good writer. (and maybe a better director)

I agree. It's a shame that she wasted that post-Oscar career boost by making some very bad decisions, when she could have truly cemented herself. The movies she did headline, and were sold as Halle Berry vehicles, were just pretty poor, to be honest. That said, she's not the first, nor the last. Reese Witherspoon is another one which seemed to come off her Oscar win and straight into a sea of mediocre films and poor box office success.

I think 'The Call' is exactly the type of thing she should be doing. Trying to get a new solid, if unspectacular hits under her belt, to build her brand name again. Yeah, they may not be Oscar-winning roles but they don't need to be. She just has to prove herself as bankable, then those bigger roles will come to her.

Well, the curse goes beyond having an Oscar I think. It's more complicated for Halle because she simply has fewer options than her peers. Catwoman could have been a good vehicle for her if it had actually been a good film directed by someone with an actual last name. She's made interesting career choices and poor ones, but there have been a lot of cooks in her kitchen stinking up the joint.

I still say she needs to fire her agent. Seriously.

Halle Berry is once again a bankable Hollywood actress, though she wont reap the benefits for DoFP.

Quote:
While the actress won't enjoy a pay hike for her next project, "X-Men: Days of Future Past," her future quote is expected to rise.

Coming off the surprisingly strong opening of the thriller The Call, Halle Berry finds herself in the driver’s seat when it comes to her next move.

But the actress will not enjoy a payday hike for her next project, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Berry signed on to reprise her role as mutant Storm in the 20th Century Fox film days before The Call's box office performance proved that she could single-handedly carry a film.

Sources say the Oscar winner will earn the same per-week salary as her X-Men co-stars Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart (though she will work fewer weeks than they do). In fact, few would have guessed before The Call's $17.1 million opening that Berry would be in a position to leverage. Heading into the March 15-17 weekend, The Call was only tracking to open in the $10 million to $11 million range.

But thanks to the film's showing -- fueled in large part by African-American moviegoers and females -- Berry is expected to see a salary bump and higher-profile opportunities for future projects. The actress was recently approached by producer-director Ivan Reitman to play the female lead in the Kevin Costner star vehicle Draft Day (that film, which is based on this year's No. 1-ranked Black List script, is not currently set up at studio, though Lionsgate/Summit has been circling with an eye on how casting shapes up).

But Berry and Reitman parted ways before making a deal, offering a glimpse into her camp's mindset.

CAA has repped Berry since 2010 after she left longtime agent Toni Howard of ICM. It's no surprise that CAA declined to participate in this story (the actress famously canned WMA in 2005 after agent David Wirtschafter discussed her point participation deal for the film Perfect Stranger, a box office disappointment). But the agency has been quietly orchestrating a reboot of Berry's career -- not an easy task given the dearth of roles available for actresses over 40, particularly actresses of color.

But CAA helped her land two important roles: The Call and Cloud Atlas. And though Cloud Atlas was a box office dud domestically, earning just $27.1 million, the film made a solid showing overseas with $94.4 million.

The Call proved to be the bigger gamble, with the $13 million film's success or failure resting squarely on Berry's shoulders, whereas Cloud Atlas was an ensemble drama.

But Sony and its label TriStar, which marketed and distributed The Call domestically, seems to have found the winning formula in targeting African-Americans and women (females made up 56 percent of the audience). The studio engineered a savvy marketing campaign, hosting a number of word-of-mouth screenings and dispatching Berry on a busy promotional tour. The film's top 10 performing theaters all skewed heavily African-American, while 48 percent of the overall audience cited Berry as the reason for turning out.

The Call, which was sold internationally by Sierra/Affinity, is expecting a lucrative foreign run.

Moving forward, Berry has not booked a role beyond X-Men: Days of Thunder. She was once attached to star in the John Singleton-helmed drama Tulia but is no longer. Still, Berry is once again a bankable star that a studio can build a movie around.

Interesting! Happy to see Halle Berry back on top hope to see more movies from her she really is an underrated actress. Interesting to read that she's being paid the same amount as Ian and Patrick, and thats he'll work fewer weeks then tham. Now that could mean nothing as Ian famously filmed all his scenes for X2 in just 2 weeks but it could also mean that Halle has smaller role in this movie than Ian and patrick which slightly surprises me as I thought those two would have smaller roles because of James and Michael being in the film. oh well Great for her!!!

Working fewer weeks that Ian and Patrick just suggests she won't be appearing in the 70s. Ian/Patrick will be on set while shooting both the past and future, so they'll obviously be working more weeks. I'm sure Halle will have a reasonably-sized role.

Yeah. that really doesn't indicate much. It's pretty apparent that Magneto and Xavier (past and present) are the films leads. So its no surprising they'd need more from Patrick and Ian then that of Berry.

Heck, Singer even tweeted recently about having lunch with Stewart discussing the film. Doesn't seem like he's done that with anyone else. That's pretty telling.

I hope Bryan Singer can give her a more meaningful role in DOFP! Then after DOFP, they could finally give us a Storm-centric film! Not a spin-off movie but a team movie with Storm as the main focus of the film!
