It's confirmed.

And yeah, it means either Thanksgiving or Christmas. I think technically, the window is from October to December.

Didn't the Vita have similar issues where most people felt they were cheated out of money based on games they had for PSP that they couldn't play on the Vita?

Sorry if this is late to the party, but I just saw on Kotaku that the PS4 won't require an "always online" connection.

Nice, will be interesting to see if they release at the same time. Hope the Euro version isn't delayed too much.

I would think not. Aren't console launches usually the same date worldwide? Though, I didn't pay attention to that when the Wii U launched, and it feels like a hundred years since the PS3 and 360 launched.

I could see Sony and Microsoft literally launching on the same date, since so much had been made about the leg up Microsoft had gotten this generation by being the first to strike.

Well I will be honest keep your PS3 if BC means so much. If you can't afford to get a PS4 with out selling your PS3 I guess that's more of your budget. I will agree it stinks. But like many others were saying, it truly is about the future games. And the PS4 will have tons of those. Especially exclusives, I don't see how it can be a deal breaker when it offers next gen games and lots of them. I buy Sony's stuff for their games, and they will have that. The PSN stuff is bull, because it's digital it has nothing to do with hardware. So hopefully that is something they will remedy. But all the big sites were pretty much right saying there is going to be no BC, and in reality it's not a big deal. Keep your PS3. And honestly I never get rid of my old consoles, I still have my NES and SNES, PSOne and PS2, and many others.

Also what are the prices for the PS4 models?

I'll probably buy my first PS3 to rent PS3 games and buy the PS4 much later when the price drops and they have a huge library.

Nope. It will only support PS4 games and Dvd/Bluray Movies.

I just read that the PS4 won't play used or second hand games, so no renting or borrowing PS4 games either.

Might as well download every PS4 game I buy. Hopefully they won't charge full price for older games.

Sucks now that we have to wait till E3 to finally see the PS4 I hope sony unveils it a bit earlier so by E3 they can showcase all the games that are coming out for the PS3 PS4 and Vita.

Darn thread change I forgot to quote some peeps last night! I definitely plan on holding onto my PS3, there are plenty of titles I haven't played. No BC for PS4 is disappointing if true. I see myself getting a PS4 in 2014 or 2015 because of this, there are still plenty of games I have yet to play this generation that I'm eager to check out. E3 will probably be a major deciding factor.

I think that was confirmed yesterday by Sony that the PS4 WILL be in fact able to play used games.

I wonder why they decided NOT to block used games.

How do they benefit by allowing used games? Are they afraid of a backlash from loyal users?

If so, why would they screw over PSN users?

The PS4 hardware is radically different from the cell processor and hardware of the PS3 and the software code written for the PS3 simply will not run on the PS4 at all...and emulation of the PS3 is out of the question with the PS4 hardware, so the best hope will be some sort of streaming video cloud-based solution. They could technically run PS1 games via emulation though and the PS4 should be powerful enough to emulate the PS2 but I have no idea if they will do that.
