The one thing I didn't like about that interview was the fact that Guggenheim is calling Green Arrow "The Hood" all the way through it....

That would be awesome if Yao Fei had trained Malcolm! But Malcolm has a really westernised style as opposed to Ollie's eastern stuff. I mean he belly to belly suplexed Ollie through a glass table, they don't teach that in Bangkok!

Quote:
Oliver thought that defeating Malcolm's plan was his way out from being the Hood. What galvanizes him now to continue to be this vigilante?
Guggenheim:
I want to answer this question without spoiling our plans for Season 2, so the best way to answer it — and this will be one of those things where you'll go back to this interview after you watch the season premiere to see what I mean — is that I think he's pretty much done being the vigilante. The question is: What happens now? Come October, that statement will make a lot of sense.
I think "the hood" and "the vigilante" will be done away with and he's going to become Green Arrow the superhero. Whether they actually refer to him by name or not. He's going to step up a gear. They already said Felicity will be researching some cool new tricks and gadgets for him, and he's probably getting a full on sidekick or two in Roy or Thea.

I still suspect they'll build up toward Thea's death which will eventually bring Roy and Ollie together as a team.
Roy takes on the name "Speedy" as a way to honour his girlfriend and Ollie's sister.

Speedy is the worst sidekick name ever. Especially since it makes no sense.

Thea should've been called Quickie Chickie instead.

So I really doubt Slade trained him.
The thing is re-imagining is quite common in this medium, maybe Slade was a member of the League of Assassins and trained Malcolm, I'm not saying it's a certainty but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that the show would go this route.

I'm actually looking forward to it, I like Thea and it will be a good evolution for the character.

But Malcolm received his training when Tommy was just a kid. Probably some 15 years ago. Slade didn't even lose his eye back then, and wasn't betrayed by his best friend Billy either at that point. So he didn't have much of a twisted world view. Malcolm told Tommy how he went to Nanda Parbat, that he met a man who helped him make sense of the world, gave him a new purpose for his life, to make the city a better place for everyone. I have a really hard time picturing Slade from the flashbacks as that man.

It's really not that I have a problem with re-imagining things. But I just can't see Slade and Malcolm having a past connection in any way, especially with the writers making it an effort to drop the Ra's hints for the fans.

The man that trained Malcolm has to be either Vandal Savage or Ra's al Ghul, assuming that it was a comic book character. I just can't see any other options.

I gotta believe Vandal Savage is off limits based soley on his immortality.

Why? They would never have to outright say that he's immortal, or show him healing from fatal wounds. Just make him mysterious and pull a Begins. Have him talk like he has been around, without him outright saying he's been alive for thousands of years. Or just show him get shot, immediately cut away, so you can't see how serious the injury was, only for him to show up when you least expect it. But did I say pull a Begins? Better yet, pull a TAS Joker. How many times did he "die", only to show up again?

Savage would be an interesting twist, not sure how'd they'd handle the immortality thing though.

I write for a site called twodashstash.com and I wrote an article about the finale and 5 questions that we have going into Season 2. Hope you'll check it out.

Besides immortality Savage is too big he's a global threat that's too big for Ollie alone. Savage is the kind of villain that you'd need the justice league to defeat his plans.

I agree with Nathan but yeah Vandal is pretty damn big for Oliver alone.

The Sensei would be much closer to him. And since re-imagining is not a problem. Shape The Sensei into a show-fitting character. You could throw elements from both Savage and Ras Al Ghul.

Do we know who the island villain is working for? I feel like he said, but I can't remember.

People assumed Malcolm, but that doesn't seem to be the case. An episode or so before the finale, they showed a woman on the other line with Fryers, but they didn't show her face.

cool, thanks.

I hope it's some organization that already exists in the comics.

Yeah all we know is that it is a woman. No name was spoken. I too hope it's a character/organization that's already in the comics.
