That is a minor thing. We are talking about the suit's concept here. All the key features that people identify with Spider-Man are all there.

Even if you need an explanation for the change, it doesn't have to be something too big. A throwaway line like Gwen saying "I made you a better costume" or Peter saying "I made my costumer cooler" will be enough. Difference is that Batman is one of those superheroes that has a well thought out and detailed reason for every single feature on his costume. This is especially true in the movies where he carries an armor with tons of gadgets on it while there is nothing too complex about Spidey's suit.

I like how we've been talking about for months that the suit was going to be a classic suit and now all these people are SHOCKED that it looks like Raimi's suit. Congratulations to the guys who predicted this would happen with people coming out of nowhere to talk about how shocked and perturbed they are the new suit looks like what we've known it would for months. |

No, it was typical hyperbolic statement not biased in reality.

Doesn't matter. It looks like the Raimi suit therefore it's a fail and the entire movie is doomed.

This poll is pretty ****ed up, I mean, what if (it's not the case yet) I consider it worse than the ASM suit, but better than Raimi's? What option would I have to choose?

See, stuff like this really doesn't help your argument. Shows a level over defensiveness.

The problem is that you're on a tide rade about the suit using design cues from Raimi's without actually acknowledging the look of the suit itself. As I said, if you want to talk about Sony "going backwards" or whatever nonsense you want to call it make a thread for that and keep it in there. If your opinion is as valid as you believe then I'm sure the thread will thrive.

It is a great looking suit. It's only disappointing that nothing of the previous suit survived. The honeycomb pattern, the flat webbing, the Spider symbol, nothing at all. It's as if they've just thrown any previous work out the window, and just tweaked Raimi's costume.

And, nope I am looking at the suit itself and noticing it is completely different from TASM suit. Never said anything about going backwards. No, it was comment on how each and every person has their own opinion. Trying to group everyone as a collective is unfair.

No, it's annoying for people to come in here and express how shocked they are the suit looks like Raimi's when it is the classic design...and no not everyone is obsessing over the raised webbing like you they are literally shocked that the suit does not look similar to TASM's. This is not or should not be the thread for it and you're not helping the matter.
Things were fine when it was just people who knew what was up. Make a thread for everyone who doesn't keep up with this stuff as closely to express their shock over what the rest of us have known for months. |

There is plenty of the original suit left in there. It's a mix of both suits.

How anyone can say it's the best/worst yet on just the released image is a bit weird IMO. As soon as you see the full body, you may change your mind. Until then, I'll remain indifferent.
BUT, I do wish they had stuck with the TASM suit, even if they made minor alterations to it. I loved the TASM suit. IMO, it made some improvements over the original costume look. Such as the blue in the gloves (and how the blue was placed), thinner stripes down the arms (and the way it went into the gloves was lovely) and thinner red on the torso. So until I see more of this suit, and really see it in motion, full judgement will be reserved.

Finally, FINALLY they fix the eyes! Gahd. Took em long enough to realize YOU CAN'T ****ING SEE OUT OF TINY PEEPHOLES - much less at night. At last, Spider-Man will possess the coveted power of peripheral vision. It's more practical, plus, looks so much better than the squinty look. The eyes (or impression thereof) are the gateway to the soul and are, I think, one of the main reasons for Spider-Man's visual appeal to the masses. The big eyes contribute to the appeal of his character design in a strange creepy-cute way. Much like this guy:
![]() Now, on to the REST of the suit... Should have stuck with what they had in the ASM. Appearance: The material from ASM looked stronger, more flexible and more streamlined without the prominent webbing. The raised webbing breaks up the figure, halting the flow of gesture. (I specify prominent rather than raised, because technically we had raised webbing in the previous suit - it just didn't call as much attention to itself.) Not against the idea of webbing, but I think they could have found a better solution. Practicality: In a fight, extra lace and useless doohickeys are more likely to snag and tear off. The point of Spider-man having a skintight suit is so that he has the flexibility to do the crazy **** that he does -i.e. it doesn't have extra crap hanging off of it to snag on things as he's moving and fighting. It's like adding lace to a swimsuit - it just adds drag. Overall, it feels less believable than it could. I look at this I think, "there's no way this would hold up in a fight." I look at this and I think, "this is gonna be an absolute ***** to repair, when it gets damaged. Which will be soon. And often." Maybe if the spider-webs weren't so symmetrically goddamned perfect looking, you could get away with super prominent webbing. I look at this and the first thing I notice is (as with Raimi's version) "Whoa. Web. Things." What I would rather see first is: eyes, red and blue. When you have a design that looks this professional, that relies so much on perfection, repairs are going to be a lot more time consuming. This looks (and I guarantee will feel) a lot more delicate and less flexible than what we had before. Therefore, I can't say it's a step up from the the costume in ASM. Major props for the eyes though. I'll have to see the rest of the suit before I can give my final judgment. Last edited by Starving Artist; 02-25-2013 at 03:37 PM. Reason: goddamned grammar... |

Sorry, but how can you tell from those very obscured pics that anything of the previous suit survived? If anything, it looks like it hasn't. Even the blue in the gloves, thinner arm stripes and thinner red torso seem to have gone. And they, IMO, improved on the original design greatly IMO.

I usually agree with your posts, but not this time. The TASM2 suit is essentially Raimi's suit with tweaks. It even uses the exact same brick pattern.

hm. Hmmm.... Looks good. Blurry, from a distance. Still gonna wait for official full body pics. (Also looks like they've continued with their wise decision NOT to have a rubber muscle suit beneath the costume. Very good indeed.) |

Maybe they used raised webbing for the same reason Nolan continued to use rubber suit. It looks like a tv series without that detail (spandex, or cloth web lines).
BTW - ASM1 had raised webbing.
