What about The Wolf Of Wallstreet? Scorsese's always a top player during award season.

12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen may get a Best Director nomination which will be worth it purely for his no nonsense sassy attitude

"12 Years A Slave" The Oscar Favorite?

By Garth Franklin Monday September 16th 2013 09:20AM
The Toronto Film Festival came to a close last night with Steve McQueen's period slavery epic "12 Years a Slave" taking the top honor of the People's Choice Award.
Four of the past five winners of the award have gone on to be nominated for Best Picture, and two have won - "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The King's Speech".
It's no surprise then that "Slave" has jumped to the top of various Oscar pundits list following the Fall film festival circuit according to Gold Derby. 'Slave' was the film that scored the biggest jump in a poll of 18 experts in the awards prediction field over the past few weeks.
David O. Russell's "American Hustle" and Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" remain in second and third place (both have yet to screen), but jumping to fourth is Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" following rave reviews out of all three recent film festivals. Paul Greengrass' "Captain Phillips" also saw a boost and is slotted in fifth.
The festival circuit wasn't as kind to some other awards-bait films which seem to have lost a bit of steam such as "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," "The Fifth Estate," "Enough Said" and "August: Osage County". All will still likely compete in acting and other categories and could stage comebacks when they reach a wider critical and public market.
Not so fortunate are "Labor Day," "Devil’s Knot," "Parkland" and "You Are Here" which all scored mixed receptions and seem to be fully out of the running.
Others like "Can a Song Save Your Life?" and the two-part "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and Her" scored great praise, but currently aren't scheduled for release until sometime next year.
Several key films have yet to screen though and could still shake up the landscape. Along with 'Hustle' and 'Wolf', there's George Clooney's "Monuments Men," Ridley Scott's "The Counselor," Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher," Spike Jonze's "Her," John Lee Hancock's "Saving Mr. Banks," Scott Cooper's "Out of the Furnace," and Olivier Dahan's "Grace of Monaco".

I don't know if this belongs here, but I may just turn off the ceremony this year as I particularly dislike Ellen DeGeneres.

What do you think if Sir Michael Caine were to host the show? I think he would be great and give it quite a bit of quality which would be a change from recent hosts.

They want someone that will sing and dance. And that the younger set will tune in to watch.

You people put much too much focus on who is telling the jokes. She serves her purpose. Further than that, who gives a rat's ass?

People (including myself) say stuff like that every year and then continue to watch the show. It's just their opinion, you can have your own favorites.

I haven't seen Cate's performance yet. She's her though so I'm sure she is good to wonderful.

It's very likely that Cate will win. Personally, I haven't seen a performance yet this year that surpasses Cate's performance. I think Bullock and Delpy deserve nods as well. Bullock will most likely get in.

I use to watch every moment. I did the whole TCM Oscar marathons, watched the red carpet, and everything. I am pretty sure I nearly cried when Scorsese and the Coens won. Then sometime between the 2009 and 2010 shows they started pissing me off to the point that I have been reduced to phone calls from my mother telling me people I care about have just won. Basically, I have been reduced to seeing Hans Landa, Jennifer Lawrence, The Living Deity of Acting and a few others the last few years.

If Blindside robs her like she was robbed for "Elizabeth"... no words. That would be like Scorsese not winning for both "Raging Bull" and "Goodfellas".

I seriously doubt Delply gets in but I really like Bullock in Gravity and would be fine with her getting a nom. I adored Gravity, it deserves all the love it has received.

The Oscars have pissed me off big time Darth, I am always grumbling about this or that. You will see me this year grumbling about them in here if I'm not busy doing something more important. I think it's awesome that your mother calls you and tells you who won.

Yeah I doubt that Delpy will get in either although I think she deserves one. I seldom get what I want at the Oscars anyway. I'm rooting for my girl Amy too. We'll see what happens after AH is shown to the critics.

Best Actor has gotta be Robert Redford. His work in ALL IS LOST is near perfect.

Delpy definitely deserves to get in, but I'm not convinced she will. And I too am very curious to hear the buzz when American Hustle starts screening.

My money's on Ejiofor for the Actor win. Redford,McConaughey, Hanks will most likely get in too with the last spot open for like 10 possible actors - Dern, Whitaker, Jordan, Di Caprio, Bale, Isaac, Phoenix, etc.

I think Bale might miss an Actor nomination this year with how crowded it is. It's a shame because he's getting consistent raves for Out of the Furnace (more than one called it "career best" for him) even if it's a quiet/understated performance and he still has AH to go which is more of a loud/showy role. The late release for WOWS might hurt Di Caprios's chances too. So I'm guessing it's either between Dern and Whitaker? Whitaker's got Weinstein backing him up but Dern is campaigning like there's no tomorrow.

Yeah, I'll be surprised if Ejiofor doesn't get it. But I do agree Redford, McConaughey and Hanks are all pretty much locks for nominations, and I think Dern might have a better shot than Whitaker for that last spot at this juncture. Bale and DiCaprio both seem like long shots this year to me.

What's funny to me is I think McConaughy, Hanks and Bale all may have multiple performances this year worthy of an Oscar and I'm pretty sure the three of them won't get anything.
