I like Unthreat Antivirus, it's a free antivirus and I think it works great. It's not as well known as the other free antiviruses but it's performance is excellent. I totally recommend it!

I've used AVG and Avast, Symantec and McAfee and I've always been disappointed because they can be intrusive at times and resource hogs. I've switched to Microsoft Security Essentials and I have to say it's a great program. MS really took the time to get this one right. It's not intrusive. It isn't a resource hog and you can set it and forget it. I have it on all of my PC's and I even removed our corporate antivirus at work and put it on my production PC's.

For those who have Windows 8, you will have Microsoft Security Essentials, but under the name Windows Defender.
