Rumor: Bale may be back as Batman in JL

Let me see...

1) I liked the ending of TDKR.
2) I enjoyed Nolan's and Bale's Batman, but I really want to see a new take on the character (and his world).
3) I've never been a fan of the idea of Batman being part of a league of superhumans fighting aliens and gods and crazy stuff like that.

I'm voting "no". And by "no" I mean, hell no.

As an older, more cynical Batman? I would love to see that dynamic between him and Cavill's Superman.

And in reply to Abudefduf's first point, I personally hated TDKR's ending. But if it allows Bale to reprise the role in a new way, I might grow to like it in the grand scheme of things.

No way. We need a rebooted Batman to really go with this universe. If he's not going to do anymore Batman solo movies it should be a hell no. Get someone fresh in there.

I'm excited to see a different take on Batman and the building of a DC cinematic universe, but I'll never say to no to Bale as Batman.

I don't buy it. Nolan clearly wanted Bruce Wayne to move on with his life and away from Batman, leaving his place as Gotham's hero in the hands of Robin. Why he would go back on this and make the ending to his trilogy null and void doesn't make sense.

Maybe they could do a flash back to the end scene of TDKR & Superman before going public saves Batman or something like that

I don't believe it , but would love to see Bale back in the costume. The only negative aspect would be no Batman solo films. However that might cause WB to produce solo films for heroes like Wonder Woman and Flash. I think it's a fair trade off.

It's pretty easy to fix.

Being Batman is the most dangerous job ever. Just say the Joker killed Blake and Bruce Wayne had to return to being Batman.

Not that I support a continuation of the Nolan-verse.

An old enemy of Bruce comes back to Gotham that Bruce made out of during TDK & TDKR & kills Alfred to get Bruce's attention & injures Robin. Bingo done

According to TDKR though...he was practically on the verge of his legs snapping off. His physical health was bad. It was part of the reason for his retirement.

There would have to be a huge threat and Superman to need Batman to do something he couldn't. Maybe something involving kryptonite. It will be interesting to find out how these two crossover , but it could take most of the movie to explain.

Maybe Bruce could have pissed off someone political or a rival company during retirement somehow

There's nothing to fix. Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne has reached the intended end of his story. This can not be said of any other movie superhero done before him. The Nolan trilogy consists of a definitive beginning, middle, and end. Bringing him back in any way is unnecessary and goes against what Nolan has laid out. It doesn't matter if the story says Robin dies, or Gotham needs the real Batman, or only he can stop the Joker. Any return to the cave betrays the notion that Bruce finally got to live the life he's wanted for so long. With so many interpretations of Bruce not being able to give up the mantle of the bat, it's great to see that in the Nolan films, Bruce Wayne gets to live on, leaving behind the tortured personality of The Batman.

And here comes the part where everyone assumes that this movie will be tied into the same universe as the Batman films.

Not necessarily the case, folks. You should know that as comic readers.

But why should the happily retired version of Batman be the most popular.

Batman has always been the most obsessed and dedicated superhero next to the Punisher.

and what makes Batman's reasons for retiring so valid? Audiences may just figure that Bruce losing his parents was that life changing. After all, he only trained and fought as Batman for a few years. In the comics, Batman trains for most of his childhood, his complete adolescence, and early adulthood then goes on to fight crime for decades. That is the level of obsession and mental torment that would make his retirement truly rewarding.

EXT. ROOFTOP - NIGHT

CLOSE ON an open folder laying flat on a ledge. PULL BACK to reveal COMMISSIONER GORDON, leafing through it.

CLOSE ON RESTORED BAT SIGNAL: A GLOVED HAND taps the BAT-SHAPED STENCIL.

Gordon turns around and the rooftop lights SNAP DARK. A SHADOWED FIGURE stands before him.

GORDON (smiles)
You've got the same taste for theatrics that he did.
(Pause)
Nevermind that I know who you are. Fool me once and all.

FIGURE (BLAKE)
Doesn't mean I can take those chances.

GORDON (nods)
It's been six months since... Well, you've helped a lot. Even when we didn't need you. Even with the rebuilding.

BLAKE
Rebuilding doesn't stop, Commissioner.

Gordon closes the folder and leans against the ledge.

GORDON
In six months this is only the second time we've spoken.

BLAKE
Then you must know why I'm here.

CUT TO Clark Kent, in GLASSES and a tie, being escorted to a table in a FINE RESTAURANT. He takes a seat and waits, fixing his tie, glancing around as if looking for someone.

BLAKE (V.O.)
Things have changed. And not just in Gotham. People all around are beginning to hope again. They're raising their heads, looking to the skies, both in the day and the night. It's become bigger than that. Bigger than me. I can't begin to explain the things I've heard of. But I know one thing...

CUT BACK to Gordon.

GORDON (concerned)
You're talking about Metropolis...?

CLOSE ON: Blake, face still hidden in shadow, nods and steps forward. He's donned a HI-TECH MASK, vaguely reminiscent of SELINA'S.

BLAKE
Metropolis... and more. I thought you might want to know.

Blake hands Gordon a GPS.

BLAKE (cont'd)
The only thing on the manifest they didn't account for was a string of pearls. It had a tracking device attached to it. For six months it's been completely dead. Nothing. But two days ago it came back to life. It's almost as if he's sending a message.

GORDON (stunned)
So it's true...

CUT TO RESTAURANT. Kent adjusts his glasses, reading a menu. Just then, SOMEONE sits down across from him. We can't see his face, but by the cut of his suit...

FRIEND
Whatever you want. It's on the house. Consider it a token of appreciation for an intrepid reporter. The Daily Planet, nice cover.

Clark smiles and sets the menu down.

CLARK
Thanks. By the way, it's a pleasure to finally meet you...

Gordon stares intently at the GPS.

CLOSE ON: The RED LIGHT flashing on the map points to a familiar street.

GORDON (looks up, now shocked)
He's in Gotham...

BLAKE (nods)
My work here isn't done. Not yet. But there's always a need for a dark knight, Commissioner. Even with a man of steel on our side....

CUT to RESTAURANT.

CLARK
So what do I call you?

CUT to OVER CLARK'S SHOULDER. BRUCE WAYNE smiles back at Clark. A cold smile, his eyes smoldering with determination. Can they trust each other?

WAYNE
Call me Bruce.

END.

Everyone will assume its the same Batman from the Nolan-verse. It's the same actor. There would be no avoiding the link between the two.
