Penguin and Catwoman origin stories throw me away, but I mostly like the movie

Yeah, I'll admit Batman Returns hasn't aged all that well, IMO. There's some great stuff in it, but also some pretty stupid ****, too.

Batman Returns was my first Batman movie and exposure to the character besides Batman TAS, I can never hate or dislike that movie.

Comedy is tragedy plus time.

I still think the whole Catwoman origin sequence is really thrilling (I was going to say 'chilling' but enouygh with the Mr. Freeze puns).

Well, I liked All Stars Batman & Robin for that very reason.

In my experience that's typical of fanboys who gravitate to 'dark' themed properties. The Matrix fans were the same way(i.e. took themselves too seriously).

Perhaps. I don't mind something "dark", but I don't mind for something "light" either. I HATE films that try to take both ideas and it just ruins everything(Green Lantern, The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3, but mostly for trying to become a bit darker with the symbiote).

More films should mix the two ingredients tbh

It is when it pisses off fans of the character. But yes, I agree with you.

The most disappointing film out of the ones listed probably is Green Lantern for me. It wasn't such a bad movie, but not perfect either, it was just poorly executed in terms of costume, & more importantly storyline.

It's because fanboys tend to mistake dark for mature. A movie can have mature themes and still be light. The best example is the first Iron Man movie.

I'll pick two.

TDKR and Spider-Man 3.

Both third films had two FANTASTIC previous entries before them. A great first film to support the series and pretty much the perfect sequel. Both had a lot of great hype with their trailers and promotions before the film debuted. Both third films left a bad taste in my mouth and hardly hold up on repeat viewings without me shaking my head in disappointment of what they could have been. I hate their plots, their stories, their settings (from Spider-Man to Harvey Dent day) the convoluted contrivances involving the story and characters (especially both annoying butlers).

Prior to their release I was ecstatic. How could you not? They were hyping up things like the black Symbiote suit, Bane, plot involving Harry's decent into the Goblin persona (FINALLY), Batman's redemption, etc. etc. but they both took what I loved previously for the past 6 to 7 years for both and perverted them with their weird directions.

Are they "teh wurst movies evah"? Hardly, I can see why people enjoy them and why they made so much money I guess. But when I look what came before and remember the great feelings I had BEFORE they were released, yeah, massive disappointments. So much so that I wish each series just stopped after their second entries that I most enjoyed, Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight.

X-3, Superman Returns, and the like were disappointing for sure but it wasn't as personal as Spider-Man 3 and TDKR where I was much more invested with their series of films and the characters of Batman and Spider-Man.

The poll so far is very accurate to how I feel.

I'm right with both films because it's my opinion, lol.

Raimi's and Nolan's third entries, while not "worst movie ever" material, are disappointments compared to what came before them. Both the previous films and the hype surrounding the highly anticipated third movie. This poll is right up there with the "Joker vs. Bane" poll where I personally feel the results are spot on.

Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 > Spider-Man 3

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight > TDKR

Easily.

TBH I went into TDKR thinking that there would be no way Nolan would out do TDK...so it didnt disappoint me too much

You should add more 'IMO's then, because hey, you made me exaggerate that word of phrase in one of my posts about TDKR

Ever since Batman & Robin I have NEVER expected much from comic book movies. I've been pleasantly surprised (Raimi Spidey's first 2, Nolan's Batman a few others) but most of the time I am not disappointed as I wasn't expecting much. WHAT BROKE MY HEART WAS THE DUMB DUMB DUMB GREEN HORNET FILM (stopped caring about it once they announced SETH ROGEN). What also was a letdown was THE SPIRIT and DAREDEVIL. THE PUNISHER movies were not bad, but I would have liked them to be a lot better (if you take the villains out of WAR ZONE and give Frank some good villains WAR ZONE could have been perfect.) AND UNLIKE MOST, I ADORE X-MEN 3.

I just don't go into these things expecting much because THE BOOKS WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER. DID YA HEAR WHAT I SAID? THE BOOKS WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER!

As if you have room to talk. You had a complete meltdown over the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3, something 95% of us in the general audience thought was a hilarious plot twist. Talk about taking yourself WAY too seriously.
