If I'm remembering correctly that track is from one of the most beautiful looking scenes in the film, looked incredible on the big screen.

Yes it was my favourite scene in the movie. However, the score was generally used quite poorly. The choir is dialed down and even removed in some cases.

finally listened to the score. I'm glad they used elements from Doyle's score. It makes it feel whole and connected

They did?

I was mainly disappointed by the lack of musical continuity. I don't mind the different tone as it fits the movie, but some expansions on Doyle's cues would have been nice.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
It annoys me even more that despite Cap's motif being featured in three movies, he's getting a new theme for The Winter Soldier.

Just pipping up to say, I really liked the music in this film. Could well be my highlight of the whole experience. Sounded a tad derivative of other scores at times (says more about the industry as a whole really) but the score often did a better job at undercutting the apparent "epicness" of scenes than the visuals did...

has that been confirmed? maybe they'll use the theme for flash backs and use a different one for the modern stuff. god, i can only hope. hearing in thor: dark world instantly brought up fond feelings.

Bravo to Brian Tyler for being the only Marvel composer to actually reference another Marvel composers work, even if it was for 15 seconds.

Yeah it's the one thing that really annoys me about the MCU, there's no continuity when it comes to musical scores and motifs between sequels. I think Brian Tyler did a great job on The Dark World but I would've preferred to either have Patrick Doyle still on board.. or for some of those themes from Thor to be brought back in a more robust way.. the soundtrack to the original was excellent, easily the best out of the Marvel Universe so far for me.

Yeah I completely agree. Tyler's theme is good and get's the blood pumping, but it's still a kind of generic fanfare. Doyle's theme had a sense of regal to it, if you heard it at random you would know this is a theme for Thor.

I thought the main theme of TDW was very similar to one of those in Thor. Farily similar melody, same brass sound but with more drums, a thicker foundation etc. All in all a sequel in spirit as far as I'm concerned.

I liked Thor's soundtrack the most in phase 1 but I think this one surpasses it in the main theme (I have neither seen the movie enough, nor listened to the entire soundtrack to judge it all. One go isn't nearly enough) and I like the change for the change of tone the sequel had as it is more power and grit than it's predecessor.

Yes, in this interview (TWS discussion starts at 19:44):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx-frDY4yR8

Quote:
"Are you expanding upon the first one or are you creating a new starting point?"

"No, it's a new starting point... The first Captain America was a period piece and had a morally uncomplicated baddy, and was very much in the tradition of earlier Captain Americas.

What's interesting about the new Captain America is he is a fish out of water in a completely contemporary society."
I personally don't see why his motif can't be adapted to a modern and morally grey area. The full march doesn't have to blare in the background (it didn't in The Avengers) and a motif or theme should be able to adapt to different tones. In the track 'Assault' from The Avengers you hear an action-based version of it, but in TDW it's a lot more jolly. If he really feels that the theme is unusable for the tone of TWS, then why not develop the theme further? At the end of the day, that's all I really wanted Tyler to do for TDW.

Tylers score was good, I really liked, but unfortunately it wasnt as good as Doyle's score and that was sorely missed here.

Other than the different theme, it sounded like a natural progression Doyle would've done for the score. However, as a standalone score, you can tell the differences between composers. It's a great score, and I can't wait to purchase the CD, but IM3 has the better score, in my opinion.

Actually I changed my mind. Thor 2 had a bigger scope but it wasn't the better movie. TDW really lacked a strong character arc for Thor and felt like an incomplete movie. I'd say Thor 1 is better.

I missed hearing Patrick Doyle Thor theme, But Brian Tyler did a good job, I'm guessing in a post-Avengers world Brian is now the Marvel studios composer for the Big Three ( Iron Man, Thor and Cap)
