Default Kevin Costner and Ivan Reitman prepare for Draft Day

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Costner plays the general manager of the Cleveland Browns whose unorthodox drafting methods cause rifts within the entire NFL organization. If you're not a massive NFL fan it may not matter much, but if you know the Browns....

Not even Hollywood can make the Browns look good.

But it does have Superman's Earth father, Batman's wife, Captain Stacy, and a former Perry White in it so maybe I'll check it out.

So when was the last time the NFL was used in an actual movie?

I think "The Blind Side" had a scene at the end that showed Michael Oher getting drafted by the Ravens. Before that, the only movie that comes to mind is "Invincible".

Yeah. The NFL is usually very protective about their image in films. Hell, there have been more baseball movies that use actual Major League Baseball teams in the last decade than Football movies with NFL teams.

This looks really good but you have to wonder if the actual NFL players and employees that they cast in this movie had trouble keeping a straight face on set. I mean, this is (apparently) a movie about the Cleveland Browns having a good draft.

Superhero movies are more realistic than that.

Can Kevin Costner just make a sequel to Mr. Brooks already?!

Agreed. This would be a lot better if he failed miserably.

"Why yes I will draft a 30 year old QB in the first round!"

Let us know how it is. It seems like they're trying to ape the Moneyball formula a bit here, but I'm such a slave when it comes to the NFL that I'm sure I'll find it fascinating.

Loved the movie. The thing literally starts 12 hours before the draft, and then builds up to it, which is the dramatic equivalent of a final action set piece. The comparisons to Moneyball are fair, but superficial. This movie has the sheen and polish of the NFL's product. So many teams are showcased via their stadiums. NFL fans will eat it up.

While fictional, and certainly compressed compared to reality, the wheeling and dealing is fascinating to watch, as was the case in Moneyball. Another similarity is the quality of acting. Everyone is in top form, even the no name actors playing the athletes and team personnel. There's more drama than I'm accustomed to from Ivan Reitman. This is where Draft Day differs from Moneyball, in that the drama isn't ernest Oscar bait material, though it is equally compelling.

There's probably more for me to add, but it's been a long day and I have another one starting in six hours. I'll leave it to you all to ask questions. I won't give away anything plot-specific, though, even in a PM.

As a huge football fan I really liked this movie. It did confuse me though that they used about.half real players names and half fake players. Wonder if that was director's decision or the players.

The only active player mentioned by name was Luck. The others were some HOF players and a few notable former Browns.
