Well I never called her acting bad, and I didn't criticize the acting performances from Halle/January in the X-Men movies.

Their characters aren't just written well, but I still like them!

She was cool until the stupid running away while hissing shot. After that, when she shed her skin and whatnot, she was stupid as hell. What's the point of even shedding if you're going to look the exact same but bald? From a filmmaking stand point, it's just lame.

I searched why snakes shed their skin and I found this

Quote:
Snakes shed their skin to allow for new growth and to remove parasites
With Viper, she probably shed her skin because she was hit by Harada's arrow and she needed her skin to heal.

And I will admit that hissing shot was unnecessary.

Not only was it unnecessary, it was inane. A few others and I burst out laughing at that shot. It was ridiculous.

As for the shedding, that works and all, but she should've looked different, at the very least. More... snake-ish, perhaps. Seeing regular Viper, just missing the hair, looked stupid.

About the hair, it could be the mutant thing.

And when a snake shed their skin, the texture of their skin is different at first, its just plain white and slimey, there's no texture to it yet.

Though I wish Viper didn't go completely bald because she just looked crazier! LOL!

How she was killed was quite comical, don't know if that was the intent. But considering how she was coming off the entire time I guess it fits.

Bad casting. I cringed every time she opened her mouth. Didn't help that she had redneck face.

I liked her character otherwise in the story. You're kind of wondering what her angle is and then you find out at the end. She was also threatening and weird. Outside of the voice performance and comic liberties, I think if the character was in some other X movie the character would be cut more slack.

She was pretty creepy and in some ways intimidating...... And yet I still found her character just downright silly. And that mole by her mouth was... distracting hahaha.
Her shedding scene... nah that didn't go down well imo and I think it's going to age even worse.

I heard from a studio exec that worked on the film that everyone was quite unhappy with Svetlana Khodchenkova's performance. They dubbed over all of her lines, and drastically cut down her role in the final cut.

This was posted in the comments section of Slash Film. I read this before seeing the film just now and I did spot some minor issues with the voice.

She had even bigger role in the movie? I certainly hope they don't reinsert those for the director's/unrated cut.

From what I'm reading and what I saw in the trailers/clips, I don't really see what the big deal is. So she's kinda cartoony and OTT, that kind of rounds The Wolverine out to having everything. Seriousness, blood, cool ninjas and gang members, cyborgs, anime chick, and mutant crazy *****. Could it be any more campy than half the dialogue/acting in First Class? I find a lot of things in that movie rushed and cheesy, I still love the movie though.

Then again I've yet to see the movie, but it doesn't look to be something that will bother me much.

Yea I think you will like it based on your feelings about first class. I feel the same. I love FC but there are some seriously cheesy moments that I cringe at everytime. haha. There wasn't a moment where I cringed in The Wolverine. i really liked viper. She was over the top for the film, but not cheesy IMO. The shedding was disturbing and she was threatening/sexy.

There is a bit at the end where it is obvious, the dubbing is so bad, its like the voice and her lips dont even match.

Overall her performance is ok, not nearly as bad as some make out, just not on the same level as pretty much everyone else.

Wasn't as bad as I was expecting her to be, but still the clearly weakest link of the film. She just stood out like a sore thumb with her somewhat out there character with everyone else being more serious. If that report is true of them cutting her character down and dubbing her over, which seemed kinda obvious in parts, then I can see why.

Yeah she didnt need to wear green all the time and be called Dr Green, it was just too much, too forced, when everything else was subtle, Viper was pretty much bashing you over the head.

I liked her as a character overall. She could have been handled better and given more depth though. I never felt like her character was properly explained other than Yashida searched her out. Which feeds into other aspects of the movie (like Yashida) which I felt weren't really explained very well.
