That would explain the smoke emitting from my fingers.

And yeah, I am quite curious. I expected strong numbers, considering the complete lack of competition. I wonder what would have happened if MoS really had taken PR's release date.

You know what, whatever you want to say. FOX earned a decent amount of money with the previous 5 X-Men films and soon with The Wolverine and next year with X-Men: Days of Future Past. They won't continue releasing X-Men films for almost 13 years now if they aren't getting their money back.

Just because its not performing like your precious MCU films and Nolans film, it doesn't mean its not successful and profitable anymore.

Movie should remain around Fridays figure minus midnights. So around $17M, give or take.

Please don't start. The movie didn't flop. Saying they can't make a Wolverine movie is the same as saying Marvel can't can't make a Thor movie, or Iron Man movie, or Sony can't make a Spider-Man movie. Fox just sucks at getting butts in seats.

Which is the brilliance of it. They made them "Phase 1". And what are the Phases based around? The Avengers films. The first Phase before the Avengers were world building and built on the anticipation of the Avengers. Why did you need to see Cap and Thor? Because they are connected to Iron Man and the upcoming Avengers. Iron Man made people believe, and The Avengers sealed the deal. Now with Iron Man 3, we are seeing the Avengers bump.

The effectiveness can be seen with the Iron Man 3 numbers and how GotG came out of Comic-Con only behind an announcement of a Superman/Batman film. That is extraordinary considering the characters have little to no cache.

No need to be defensive. Who said they aren't successful or profitable? I'd take First Class over the vast majority of superhero films, but we are talking numbers here and that is what I am discussing.

Of course you count Friday midnight number but generally to figure out Saturday's number you minus the midnight. I'm not exactly sure how you got those numbers but it'll look more like this...

Fri- 21M
Sat- 17M
Sun- 14M

Around $55-50M for the weekend.

furthermore, this move should get 3 million next week daily.

And even with a 65% percent drop that is projected we should hit 100 million by next Tuesday

You are closer.....

First Class did

21 Million
19 Million
13 Million

However, First Class didn't have the benefit of the massive 3000 screens of 3D. They did to much 3D here....

Wolverine may suffer from so many 3D screens.

But in the end it should be at at least on Par with Xmen FC
which is good since the Wolverine doesn't have the benefit of the word Xmen in the title.

Well, Fox took out the X-Men title, which I assume is because they thought the name Wolverine is good enough to carry itself in the box office. The OW figures may say otherwise, though.

Yeah, I popped in to two theatres today to check it out and no one was paying to see it in 3D. The word is out, why pay extra for no reason? All the 3D showings are doing is limiting the places people can see it in 2D the way they want to.

Honestly, good crowds in 2D but empty in 3D at 2:30 in the afternoon and 8:20 at night.

I think FOX increased the screens from 3700 last week to 3900 this week because over 3000 are in 3D. Do you think they saw this coming? thye sensed they needed a few more 2D I'll assume

3D works oversees but not here

Do you know that some theatres overseas have dinner served to you and have table with waiters. True story.

I'm not sure if Fox saw it coming, but I didn't see The Wolverine in 3D.

And the Avengers didn't get any of my $ for 3D either...More movies need to be shot in IMAX than 3D

Did I say it flop?

No I didn't. You are the one who is starting something.

And I didn't mention anything about Thor/Iron Man/Spider-Man.

The thing is Wolverine sells more if he's with the X-Men. And he was introduced to the movie goers with the X-Men.

Looks about right. That's sorta how. Pac Rim performed. Eh, I don't see this 56mil number everyone is projecting but I could be wrong. It's not like I'm far under that anyhow as I'm thinking 52-54mil.

You've been saying this for months and it still makes absolutely no sense.

What kind of business strategy is this?? Coca-Cola makes Coke and all these other products. Should they stop selling everything else and only sell the top-selling product? Should Toyota only make Camry's because they make more money off of them than they do with the Yaris's??

You're so preoccupied with the bragging rights of the franchise. You only seem to care about X-movies being the top grossing movie of blah blah blah and such and such. When The Wolverine reviews started flowing in, all you did was obsess over the RT score... barely even mentioning whether you wanted to movie to even be good or not. Do you even care about seeing X-Men movies?? As a fan, I love seeing the OT cast in X-Men movies. But also as a fan I would love to see their world grow. Granted I'm not the biggest fan of Wolverine movies being made, but I would LOVE to see Uncanny X-Force or X-Factor or Excalibur(!) come to life.

Money aside, FOx has built some good will with critics since First Class.

FC was very well regarded among critics, and The Wolverine as a stand alone is most mixed to positive.

I think that helps going forward to a big event movie.

Lets no kid ourselves, majority of fan boys set their expectations for high for reviews and box office and crash when they aren't met. Not saying The Wolverine is a flop, YET. But its following a pattern this summer movie season. A # of big budget highly toted films crashed and burned.

An 11% drop so like I said, typical 10-15% drop.

That isn't what that means. The 3700 and 3900 numbers are the amount of theaters the movie is in. The 3000 number is the number of theaters playing it in 3D. The vast majority of the total number of theaters, in this case 3900, are playing it in both 2D and 3D.

Go and look up your local theaters. You should see 2D screenings at all your locations. All the theaters for 70 miles from me, over 60 theaters, are all playing the film in 2D. If you want to watch the film in 2D, it is easy.
