Internationally, it posted the strongest opening ever for an X-Men title.

Fox will probally make a profit on it but only because of foreign box office. With this opening weekend the best case final domestic take Is 144 to 146 Million around what first class got.

The X-Men films are starting to be foreign box office winners and poor ones domesticly.

VERY happy to hear this.Y'know...i usually desn't feel bad if a movie i liked tanked at the box office, as long as i liked it, i don't really care...but this is the first time i feel REALLY bummed that a movie that i like might be a box office failure.

Glad to know that there's hope yet.

It has no chance of being a box office failure...don't worry

$120 million budget and it's already made, roughly, $141 million WW. It'll probably follow First Class' path and make around $350 million WW. But it may do better business in Japan. The Wolverine has many big name actors from Japan.

Thanks for the heads up! not very good at predicting box office

Maybe Fox should alter their strategy and just release these movies overseas first.

Considering this is around the same time the two Dark Knight sequels came out, and seeing how those two became behemoths in the box office arena, I don't think people being on vacation can be legitimately used as an excuse.

Let's hope FC and TW are the calm before the Storm (ahem) that is DOFP. It's a good thing the X-men movies are collecting good will from the fans with those two movies and DOFP will hopefully be the culmination of all those efforts!

oh my god will you stop it. The movie did not do badly domestically by any stretch of the imagination. It will gross $145m domestically on a $115m budget. That is great. Your gloom and doom **** for no reason is annoying. The movie already proved you wrong by doing great numbers internationally, just get over it.

So, yes, the summer holiday season and sunny weather will have an impact, for sure. But good reviews will hopefully give the film some legs so that those who can't go to see it yet can be assured it's worth the effort when they do get chance.
Yes, if my FB feed is any indication (and it's probably not), everyone is on vacation right now, and they're not at the movies.

But two of my friends did see it and posted that they thought it was awesome.

I'm seeing it again this week for sure.

Why do I get the feeling that many fans only see this movie as a Wolverine movie, when another X-Man, JEAN GREY, is in it too?

Yeah, Wolverine is the biggest character on the movie, and Hugh is really popular, but Jean Grey has many fans too, so Wolverine fans arent the only ones seeing this movie, X-Men and Jean fans too.

Same as Origins wasnt just a Wolverine movie either. With fan favourites Gambit and Deadpool (played by a really well known actor, Ryan Reynolds) and young Cyclops and Emma.

My point is: The audience supporting this movie are XMEN fans, not only Wolverine fans. So lets see the things with perspective.

Although the Dark Knights were juggernaughts in their own right, so they were going to be huge regardless of the the weekend.

Not saying the vacation theory is the reason it underperformed (I don't think it factored significantly)...but this movie was no Dark Knight, in terms of prerelease buzz.

yeah. This movie should be seen "somehow" like BatmanBegins.

In the sense that the quality of THIS movie is what will help next Wolverine movie.

Origins quality hurt TW, obviously.

I reckon so

Is there any sort of revenue the studios get from things like views through Netflix or LoveFilm?

If this movie goes to Netflix, yes.

Also, Rentals, Dvd and Blu-ray sells, Product placement sponsorships, and selling the TV rights.

The Wolverine is going to make a profit at the box office alone, and then big profits elsewhere

This is going to make 350-400 mil. That's pretty good for a 120 mil movie. They can keep making Wolverine movies as long as it has 100-120 budget and a solid director like Mangold.

I would of thought they would be pretty good indeed, especially with the extended-cut thrown into the mix.

Hopefully the Asian market will respond to it as well, with the talent included from Japan it has a high chance, so it should make a healthy profit. In fact its covered its cost this weekend globally its all just profit from here on.

Should be ok

But the Marvel comics-inspired "Wolverine" was a force overseas this weekend. It opened in 126 countries – every major market except Japan and China -- and brought in $86 million, the best foreign opening for an X-Men movie ever. And Its $141 million in first-weekend global grosses surpasses its $115 million production budget.

"The Wolverine" hit its demographic targets, with an audience that was 58 percent male and 42 percent under 25. The "A-" CinemaScore from first-night audiences and the foreign numbers took away any sting from the soft domestic figure for Fox's president of distribution Chris Aronson.
