So... that actually happened.

In other news, how about early second weekend predictions?

Nothing really hitting next weekend and I expect good WoM.

Well despite all the "it's a soft opening" talk The Wolverine is hardly in a Dredd 3D situation and even that is still hearing talk of a sequel (possibly helped by blu-ray/dvd sales). 200AD have even put up a petition on their website to show interest.

Days of Future Past is a guaranteed sequel and if that does well then they probably will come back to exploring their biggest star/character in spin-off movies. Not to mention that The Wolverine is making its money back.

I have a feeling you might be watching this every weekend.

I am still waiting. My family wants to see it so we decided we'd all go together. So waiting for Wednesday. Have avoided spoilers pretty well so far.

We took my mom to the fan screening last week. She's only seen parts of the X-Men movies on TV, and I'm not sure she knew what the hell was going on for most of the movie, but she liked it.

My dad loved it, he wants to see it again.

My 5-year-old nephew will not be seeing this for obvious reasons, but he saw the picture of me on stage with Hugh at the screening last week and recognized him as "the daddy from the fighting robots movie."

Friday night I went to the movie with about 8 people...and they ALL liked it! That's never happened before... after that we drank some brews and ate some burgers at Red Robin...good weekend for me for sure. Thanks in large part to the superhero classic I had just watched. I wanna see it again this weekend

Yeah but still didn't help The Wolverine that much.

But when we bring up First Class' underwhelming box-office performance, fanboys will blame it on X3/Origins.

Well, yes, of course X3/Origins are part of the blame for First Class under-performing. they both did very well financially but that doesn't mean people loved them. By today's standards they were barely successes, not to mention they didn't get a lot of repeat business. Doesn't take a fanboy to understand that.

But First Class was also another animal than the previous four films, which shied away the movie goers who liked the campiness of X3/Origins. Not to mention the minimal promotions Fox did for it.

We're seeing something happening with both FC and TW that we haven't seen before with any superhero franchise. A relaunch without a cast/story reboot. It's hard to track how that's going to be received in the long run until DOFP comes out. It's a big gamble for Fox to be doing what they're doing, but from my perspective they have a very specific strategy in mind.

yup flight was not a big release and made almost a 100mill and back over its budget don't know where that guy got his numbers from.also book of eli almost made 100mill on a small budget so denzel is a draw 2-guns could be another hit like safe house but wolverine should make 20mill or so this weekend

First class left a positive note in people's minds while TLS really was on the way to destroying this franchise, FC really was fresh air this franchise needed, thank goodness they are a big part of XMen: days of future past

Some here trying to make it sound like first class are more popular than Original films. If that Is true why was banshee, moira, and all helfire club characters dropped In favor of doing film with OT and first Class cast members. And wolverine Is going to be a major character In DOFP.If it's major sucess that kills
the wolverine faituge line some here are pushing.

Rebooting doesn't automaticlly mean It would be greater box office sucess.

When they rebooted Jack Ryan with sum of all fears It killed that franchise for about 10 years.

The Incredible Hulk did about the same as hulk

The Amazing Spider-man did less than the much maligned Spider-man 3

Batman begins wasn't a runaway sucess.

If as rumored that Fox Is spending 250 Million on DOFP It's going to have to do 500 Million worldwide to break even. That's what happens when they spend a lot of money on it.The Wolverine will have to do 240 worldwide to break even.

I dont think its as popular as the OT characters. But I think FC did impressive with its roster and setting. Especially compared to X-Men 1 that features all A-Listers. Non of these films have done extreme better business then the other yet.

The reasons they are making DOFP instead of FC2 seem to be...

Bigger movie, fix problems, they were talking about DOFP before hand, and it was a way to tie all the films together. Those are just a few reasons but we have no idea how this will end yet so there is probably more. Everyone was speculating they were doing DOFP to fix problems and now thats been confirmed by Singer.

We also have heard that most the film takes place in the 70s. So the FC cast is maybe getting the most screen time. Singer is obviously very interested in making films about Prof X and Magneto, so the film is going to more then likely explore those character the most back in the 70s.

It defently seems like from comic con the film version could almost be called a cross between comic version of DOFP and X2.If the 250 million budget Is true that's an avengers size budget. But that also means It's going to have to do close to adjusted domestic figures of X2 and last stand domesticly to be considered a succuss which would be 290 million(X2) or 291 Million(The last Stand)

with the huge foreign box office the wolverine will probaly get the 240 Million It needs to
break even.

If you want X-Force to become reality you better hope it can match X2.If Fox Is really spending 250 Million on DOFP and It's worldwide box office Is under 500 Million that could be what could cause Fox to reboot.Which would mean back to begining of X-Men.

I think FOX get their $1 Billion... Might be a little optimistic, but I think FOX are playing this right, with the early near perfect viral campaign, the surprise panel at SDCC they keeping people excited for this film.

Plus the fact that Singer is back with his original cast and a new cast plus GIANT ROBOTS I think this does really well at the Box office.

Also with SINGER finally given a huge budget for a X-MEN film, im sure we get loads of action with good CGI and one awesome story! Its the perfect Storm!

I feel like both FC and TW have fallen into the, "But dammit, these were GOOD!!! " section of the franchise...

You have this thing where you always mention how First class has less characters then the OT

its sounds like a few mutants will be in the even further future like

Wolverine,Warpath,Blink,Sunspot (maybe another)

so they won't be part of the OT so basically we got

magneto,xavier,iceman,kitty,storm,colossus, rogue

in OT while the FC part has

magneto,xavier,beast, mystique, havok, quicksilver

it seems like The OT have maybe 1 extra person then FC, and if you don't count trask we don't fully know yet if thats all the FC characters, and wolverine and possibly bishop will be the middle ground in 2 time periods I'm guessing, and tbh singer really had to pick the characters carefully here and he has pretty much measured it out when you look at the numbers

it does seem like there will be more time in the 70s stuff though, so using characters as an example of anything is stupid
