It has a small shot at beating X2 without China but its basically guaranteed to if it gets into China. With a similar budget thats great news as X-2 was considered a major success which greenlit a 200million dollar budget for X-3.

Oh yeah....I have stayed out of this forum to try and not be spoiled by anything...so it was all new and cool for us. A couple of interesting surprises in it, can't wait to see how they play out in future movies.

I'm happy to hear this movie is doing solid business.

I was hoping it would pass First Class domestically... but oh well.

Especially since it doesn't open in Japan for another month.

When will the studio know if it's opening in China? Does it have to get approved by the Chinese censors before a possible opening?

So few films make it to the Chinese marketplace. I don't know when the studio finds out.

That's what makes it so interesting. It makes me very curious why so few films are released in China.

The Chinese are kind of ***** when it comes to letting American movies in. Many don't make it, even the Dark Knight didn't.

I really hope Wolverine does, if so the Overseas could be close to 300million but not quite. And it needs to China to guarantee 400million WW.

Looking like 130dom right now and about $235million overseas excluding China and Japan.

So you're think $365 million before Japan. Seems realistic.

How do you guys think It'll perform in Japan?

Seeing it in 11+ hours here in Scandinavia. Hoping for at least a half-full audience. We'll see. Pretty excited, I think I'm going to like it. Got a few friends to go with me so we'll do our fair share. Thinking of paying with gold bars+virgins+state secrets to beef up those international numbers.

On it's way to $400 million WW perhaps?

Also at this rate, it may end up better internationally than X3 (around $220 million or so).
I really hope it reaches $400 million but it seems like a bit of a stretch now especially the film is already in theaters for 3 weeks. I think in Japan, $20 million is the most that it could get but who knows. I really hope this film gets a China release.

But that's the thing, it's been in theaters 3 weeks with a crowded past 3 weeks and it's already past $300 million WW.

At the very least, this'll end up grossing more than First Class and I honestly think it'll fall somewhere between Origins and X2.

$373-$407 million WW. Somewhere between those two numbers

2.5 weeks out and its passed 300million and it has not been released in Japan. It could still realistically do 400million without China but if it gets into China, its a lock.

Without China Im prediction 385million, which is still great on an under 120million Budget but that 400mill Milestone would be nice.

Id be happy with 400 mill, ecstatic with 410million.

Slightly disappointed below 400 but anything above 360million is great, that makes it the first X-movie to triple its budget since X-2 and it will get passed 360mill.

Boxofficemojo.com says - remember when movies stayed in the theater forever? Two weeks and already losing theaters:

Quote:
In its third weekend, The Wolverine lost over 1,000 theaters and dropped 63 percent to an estimated $8 million. Its total reached $112 million, and it is now guaranteed to be the lowest-grossing X-Men movie yet at the domestic box office.

It's the tale of the last part of the summer, some domestic so-called underperformers. It appears Elysium is also going to join that crowd.

It seems every movie loses around that number of screens each week, I watched the BO performance of Pacific Rim closely and that lost at least 1000 screens each week, so the same happening to TW isnt surprising, especially when you also consider the amount of big movies released during the summer season these days.

Looking at Boxofficemojo.com, it's crazy to see how much $ China can actually add to the foregin gross.

G.I. Joe 2 made over $53 million in China, and Pacific Rim has made roughly the same so far...so I see what you guys mean if The Wolverine gets released in China. Should be a major boost...if it gets released.
