Such a shame that amy/rory can't be part of the 50th celebration.

Anyway, slightly disappointed about the real Doctor thing. I'd prefer the clone and Rose.
It is easy to say "Moffat is pretentious", he is, and that you prefer RTD, but how much time and thought does one put into that is also important imo.

It is never that RTD is better at coming up and writing convincing plots or characters, it isn't that RTD was more clever (I completely agree that at times Moffat is too clever for his own good), it is always Moffat is pretentious and the show isn't as fun. At which point I simply point to the difference in ratings between The Walking Dead and Justified and I have my answer for why that is.

Doctor Who under Moffat is Harry Potter. Doctor Who under RTD was Twilight.

About what? See it is easy to just say you disagree, but could you please explain it?

So much of RTD's Who was built on shipping and what I found to be out of place tweeny love. Rose and 10, Martha's lusting after 10, the weird false 10 and Rose thing. It was creepy where the Rose from season 1 went once "hunky" Doctor showed up.

Not to say Moffat doesn't do romance, of course he does, but even while the Doctor acts like an immature fool most of the time when it comes to interpersonal relationships, the relationships seem to take on more mature ideas. Marriage and what it really means is a key jumping off point. Amy/Rory and 11/River have been a strong demonstration of the ups, downs, passion, heartbreak and love of marriage.

Something as simply as the Doctor healing River showed more then anything RTD did on the complexities of love imo.

FYI this thread is actually number 10. So start grinning like idiots

With that said

Clara has come in at number 5 in VH1's Top 10 Hottest Companions Poll ...

Rose is number 4

Quote:
4) Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) - 9th & 10th Doctor's Companion

What's in a name? Well, Rose isn't just an "English Rose" who brought the Doctor back to life, she's the companion whose tenure on the show ensured that the program rose from the dead.

Billie Piper not only lent Rose a sweet inquisitiveness, but also an innocent sexuality. She was tough, courageous, empathetic and very, very sexy.

Quote:
5) Clara Oswin Oswald (Jenna-Louise Coleman) - 11th Doctor's Companion

Clara…or…errr…Oswin…or…err…Clara Oswin or Oswin Oswald or Clara Oswald…well, here's the thing: we don't know much about this new companion except that she's smart, sassy, flirty, and gorgeous.

Oh, and the entire overarching mystery of the 7th (new) series hinges on her identity.

Jenna-Louise Coleman is stunning and sexy on her own, but the mysteriousness of the character amps up her sex appeal to eleven.

For the difference between Davies and Moffat, look at how they both handled the Doctor sacrificing his own life in The End of Time and Big Bang. I strongly prefer the Doctor's goodbyes as he flew into the explosion and carried Amelia up to bed over the way he chewed out Wilfred said "I don't want to go."

The above also ties into the fact that RTD treated the end of his era as if the Doctor was finally going to die for good, even though he knew he was gonna regenerate. It reeked of spitefulness. That, added to the whole thing where he visited EVERY ONE of his previous companions just seems really...immature, I guess. Which 10 was at times, granted, but he was still heroic. There he just seemed petty and childish, and left a bad taste in my mouth.

One of the best episodes of Who ever during RTD's era was written by Moffat (girl in the fireplace).

He also wrote "The Empty Child","The Doctor Dances", "Blink", "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead".

All were good episodes (imo).

How is he a better storyteller when almost all of his stories fell a part at the end do to failures in logic, plot or characters? This is the guy who wrote "Journey's End" and "The Last of the Time Lords". He wrote "The End of Time". How is that good storytelling?

Moffat is the guy that strung together the "Cracks in time" and "Lake Silencio", a far better example of any storytelling RTD came up with. Then there is "Blink", "The Eleventh Hour", "The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone", "Girl in the Fireplace", "The Empty Children/The Doctor Dances", "Angels Take Manhattan", "The Snowmen", "The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon" and others.

I don't even know what you mean about impact.

I respect your opinion, and it is no less valid than mine different opinions in general. Most people I know prefer RTD, however most you know obviously prefer Moffat.
But looking at Chamber Music's post, I would say it reflects my opinion. Moffat is full of explosions, excitement and paradoxes. If you like that, you'll prefer Moffat. RTD is more deep, dark and meatier. If you prefer that, you'll prefer RTD. I personally like a good, deep story. However I do admit that some of the best episodes from RTD's run were Moffat's. I mean, I still can't watch The Empty Child.
When my sister watches re-runs of Doctor Who after school, I'm always going upstairs to do revision. Let's just say I can get my self upstairs to do it when Moffat's series is on. I never can with RTD.

It isn't. It really isn't. It is as deep, dark and meaty as Twilight.

I don't even know how this is argument. RTD is the man who created farting aliens. Moffat created the Silence and the Weeping Angels. RTD gave us Dobby Doctor. RTD gave us Rose, Martha and Donna. Moffat gave us a married couple in the Tardis. Moffat had his Doctor give the Silence a worldwide execution.

But I would love you to explain it. You keep making these statements, but don't really give examples from the show. 9 yelling at a Dalek that is so close to be being ridiculously cheese isn't dark.

What is so dark or meaty about RTD's work in comparison to River Song, the Weeping Angels, the Silence, "The Beast Below", The Christmas Carol, or how The Great Intelligence has consumed the life of children for over a 100 years? The 6th season is one big dark fairy tale.

The complexity of Amelia Pond, River Song, and now Clara Oswald show far more meat and more depth then anything RTD had going.
