We can no longer think of each season being an adaption of a single book or part of a book. They are grabbing from the whole tapestry now.
I think it is happening this way because the books didn't tell a linear story. One book dealt with this while another dealt with that even though it was all happening at the same time. The show is trying to keep with "real time." It's better this way so we don't have to go a whole season without seeing Tyrion.

Yep. And I like that they are letting things happen more progressively for the tv show. Case in point Dany and Jaime and Brienne. They've already covered a big chunk of Jaime and Brienne's journey in SOS and we are only 3 episodes in. Dany's story is speeding along much faster than in the books, and thank god for that, cause she does a lot of lingering in places in the books. They aren't just adapting every little nook and cranny because they have 20 episodes for SOS. They are moving at the same pace they always have and using the extra space to incorporate other things in. It's keeping the pace crisp, the season packed with story, and the season doesn't feel drug out.

That part weirded me out cuz it looks almost identical to the symbol used in the 2005 series Threshold which happened to star Peter Dinklage. Lol

People talk about jamie's character transformation but what about hot pie's from when when first met him?

He really was a fat bastard at that point.

Then he got humbled by ending up in the same Night's Watch recruitment group as Arya and one of King Robert's bastards.

But, yeah, for as minor as he was, he got quite the little arc.

That's what I love about this show; even the minor characters are so well-rounded. It makes the world of the story feel more real; everybody's the main character in their own story. It's rare to find a story where you'd meet people with so much complexity and only see them occasionally. You could do a show where the main cast are Barristan, Gendry, Sandor, Loras, Sam, Brienne, Osha, and Pycelle, with Melisandre as the main villain and have a pretty slick show.

BTW, can someone explain the deal with the song? I can see "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" existed before the show, but is it from the books? Or is it a completely independent song that somebody decided would fit in with the show?

It's from the books, the lyrics foreshadow some events.

You mean who's holding him and Brienne right now? It's some of Roose Bolton's bannermen. The prior week's episode that ended with their capture showed them carrying the sigil of House Bolton which Jaime pointed out. The guy who (last week spoiler)cut off Jaime's hand his name, Locke, hasn't been mentioned as far as I can recall. But it was confirmed in the "Behind the Episode" clip on YouTube by D.B. Weiss.

I had pictured Tyrion far worse in my mind after the battle in the books. On the show he doesn't look much different than he did before the scar.

Too cost-prohibitive to CGI out his nose every week for the rest of the series' run.

Yeah, for prose, that's one thing, for TV, it's a WHOLE other ballgame. He's too major a character to do something like that with.

I always felt it was a bit harsh taking Tyrion's nose, but it is GRRM so not entirely out of the ordinary.

I was not expecting that coup. The dragons looked great, as usual. 10/10; nice to see Stryver stand up for himself.
