WTF decided it'd be a good idea to shoot that portrait with a wide-angle lens?

In the comic-con footage, it appears that Clark is wearing this outfit when he puts on the glasses; and that sort of worries me because he looks no different from Superman here. Agreed. Loved that version.

It's funny how Daily Planet Clark is wearing all blue like Superman. There goes all subtlety.

Yeah, my hope is that scene is from when around when Clark first comes to Metropolis before Superman appears in public hence him being a little sloppy with the disguise. Actually, if you look carefully in that photo, you can see that Clark has a sport jacket slung over his bag. While the hair is a shame and I admit it is annoying that Cavill seems to have perfect Superman hair as Clark, I wonder if Mild Mannered Clark in Man of Steel will actually look quite similar to Birthright's Clark. After all, if you take into account the sport coat, it seems like Clark in that photo has a similar dressed down, loose business casual style to Birthright Clark. If the coat is worn with the right amount of sloppiness, it could work.

Well, intelligence isn't enough, especially this day and age where an undergraduate university degree doesn't mean squat when trying to get a job. I think the point that they were trying to get at is that being smart is not enough to get you a job at a top newspaper. Journalists need to be ambitious, competitive A-type personalities who fight for stories and assertively ask hard questions. Therefore, depicting Clark as a quiet, wallflower type does beg the question of how did he get such a great job. On one hand, you could portray him as getting hired on for some minor human interests gig where his quiet, compassionate personality would be an asset. On the other hand, that makes it hard to depict Clark as fighting for good and trying to change the world as a journalist as well as Superman if he only write fluff pieces. Birthright did a great job of addressing that issue. When Clark has his interview with Perry, Perry almost doesn't hire him because of the shy and quiet Clark act. He has to let some of the assertive Superman persona and passion show through to get the job.

He could easily get stories that no other journalists could physically be able to get to by virtue of his powers. Using them on the down low, I mean. Many on-location reporters don't come across super-aggressive or pushy, but they often find themselves in very dangerous situations. NBC News's Richard Engel comes to mind, not to mention Anderson Cooper. Both were recently shot at in the Middle East, and Engel was actually kidnapped with his crew for a few days. And he's still went right back to the job. Not every reporter has those kinds of cojones in them, but Clark obviously would.

I'm not concerned as to whether or not Clark's personality clashes with the typically extroverted reporter; I was curious if they are literally going to show him pursuing journalism in his college years. I know he wears a Kansas State shirt in the film, so he is probably college educated to some degree in the movie.

If not, I guess they could get away with it by Lois recommending him as an assistant of sorts and he works his way up.

That was the point in Birthright though. Clark brought great work with him in his portfolio, but hiring someone is not just about great work. Perry was confused by the strange disconnect between the strength and daring of Kent's stories and the person sitting in front of him. That is why most hiring processes include interviews as well as written applications. People don't like to trust what is simply written on paper.

I'm not saying that journalists need to be aggressive or pushy, but even with the people you mentioned like Anderson Cooper, he has a quiet confidence and charisma about him. You can tell he has the cajones to go into danger to get a a story. If the whole point of the Mild Mannered Reporter persona is to make Clark seem different than Superman and dissuade suspicions, then an Anderson Cooper or Richard Engel type of personality doesn't work. It is still much the humble, strong and silent type of persona that is often associated with Superman. It is actually probably more Superman-esque than being brash and aggressive.

I dunno, I always pictured Supes to be far more regal and confident than even Engel and Cooper come off. There's quite a gamut to work with.

Eh, I'm getting there. This was one agent I was really hoping for, but alas. Read for yourself.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
I enjoyed taking a look at the first 20 pages and can readily see that there’s a lot to like here: fully-fleshed characters, a sinisterly beautiful world, and a great introduction that draws you into the ravaged setting. Your distinctive writing really captures the sights and sounds of both the battlefield and the court while creating a dark, eerie atmosphere that fits your narrative well. I found it especially interesting how your tone and pace have a nightmarish quality that reflects the soldiers’ experiences, especially when coupled with the lurking threat of unrest in the kingdom.

Unfortunately, though there is much to admire here, I’m afraid I don’t love it as deeply as I would need to in order to represent your manuscript in today’s competitive marketplace. This is just one opinion, of course, and hopefully another agent will have a different perspective.

Seriously, how the ****?
