I agree and I think most people who liked the movie because of the spectacle and how enormous the action sequences are, but seriously, forget about the action and take a look at the story-telling, it wasn't very good.

The action to me was bland. Just reminded me of Transformers with buildings crumbling all over and mindless destruction.

What I loved about Avengers last year was the variety of action. Whether it was Thor and Iron man fighting, or the battle on the hellicarrier, or the final battle, it was varied and all had good pacing.

One part of MOS directly rips off Avengers when one of Zod's henchmen jumps on the cockpit of that fighter plane. Nearly a direct rip-off of what they did with Hulk, only with Hulk it was awesome.

Man of Steel wins... IM3 was not a good film by any means. So many issues with the film. MoS, not a perfect film by any means, the action was a little too much at the end, but there were some truly great moments which set the movie ahead of IM3.

Star Trek Into Darkness turned out to be the best summer blockbuster and I don't even care about Star Trek franchise, and I love the comic book franchise. But as a FILM, Star Trek was the best.

Yeah but it was a team movie and that's where its advantage in that regards comes from. Also the fact that you have multiple hero's playing off each other as opposed to just 1.

I'll say IM3 was actually not too dissimilar in that regards in the final battle with rhodey but didn't come close to the avengers or MOS i should add. I frankly thought those dozen or so random iron man suits flying around just added to the clutter of what should have been a more straight forward iron man vs killian fight.

IM3 had the stronger script, but MoS had more heart AND impressive spectacle for me, and it finally gave my favorite superhero a cinematic incarnation resembling the one I've always wanted to see, so it gets my vote.

So when filming for Man of Steel ended in Feb. of 2012, they saw The Avengers in May and decided to film another spot just to rip off what Hulk did in the film.

Makes sense.

I don't think it was a rip-off either but did filming really end in feb 2012? Almost a year and half before it's release date?

TDKR ended filming about 8 months before it's release date.

Man of Steel goes all the way up until February
It was going to be released in December 2012, so that's most likely why they kept that schedule. The extra time was converting it to 3D if I recall.

MOS was originally scheduled to come out in late 2012, but was delayed until this weekend. The production started in August 2011, so it's taken 22 months start to finish. There may have been reshoots last June, IIRC. Given the decidedly awful (or should I say rotten?) reviews, it's easy to imagine why MOS took so long to put together.

Has there been any truth to re-shoots? Thought it was all to convert into 3D.

And those reviews...hah. Too bad they decided to just blast the first real great CBM of the year.

I disagree with the negative reviews but I find them funny since a lot of what I heard were my problems with Avengers but I felt this film did well: too much action, not enough story and no character development. All problems I felt in Avengers but didn't feel in MOS. MOS definitely lacked some character development for the supporting cast but I look over that since it's an origin and origins tend to do that (ex. Batman Begins) and focus on the hero instead.

People may not like the reviews, but for people that are paid to critique good writing, good editing and good film direction, you can understand why it came in below Superman Returns. This is one of the weakest scripts I've seen in a long time. It starts out by making Jor-El and the Kryptonians idiots knowing their planet was going to die sending their worst criminals to safety. Why didn't Jor-El who said the planet was doomed and who built Kal-El's ship from the phantom drive figure out that they could be safe in the phantom zone? It then goes into the muddled motivations of Zod that make no sense. I under stand why people lime the film, but as much as I tried to like it it is fundamentally flawed and droves of people have said so, some who are big Superman fans.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Jor-El said that the fate of the Kryptonians were tied to that of Krypton, including his and Lara's. He wanted a fresh start for his species with a child that hadn't been biologically engineered.

Zod's motivations aren't really that muddled. He was biologically engineered and raised to protect Krypton and its future. That is why he stages the coup at the beginning, because he has realized how the leadership has led them to this point. But by that point it is too late.

So when Zod shows up at Earth, his ultimate goal is to bring back Krypton.

Disagree. The action was fantastic, imo. The amount of destruction was unnecessary, yes, but the fights were ****ing amazing.

Man of Steel, but just barely. It it didn't take any time to breathe, it could have used some of the "too much time out of costume" complaints that all the other movies get.

That's what I'm talking about, it just became another Transformers smash fest. Some of the visuals are fantastic, for sure.

As many of us said, somewhere inbetween all the muddled scenes is a great movie, perhaps the best comic book movie of all time, but what was delivered was a jumbled mess.

If Goyer and Snyder aren't removed from the sequel, I'm done with the series.

The action should have been more streamlined. Some sequences could have been removed entirely. That whole tentacle thing for instance. That was just some of the over-cgi'd stuff they could have done without. I was fine with the combat scenes though. Faora was a beast

Man of Steel. It felt like the beginning of something new for Supes. Iron Man 3 felt like the end. I don't know where he goes from here other than his appearances in Avengers.

Loved Iron Man 3 waaay more than Man of Steel. I thought MOS was "okay." I think the pacing was too jumpy for me. I appreciated what they were doing with the flashbacks, but I think a more linear storyline would have helped support the movie, particularly when the stuff with Zod and the destruction starts so early in the movie. The action in MOS was overkill compared to Iron Man 3.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
I personally think the entire fight with the giant robot was unnecessary. The only fight I enjoyed in Man of Steel was the last one with Zod, and only when they did the areal battle. The fight in Smallville was pretty cool as well, but turned into a cartoony video game, like the other fights IMO.

However I loved the ending to MOS more than Iron Man 3's ending. I also didn't like the forced romance between Lois Lane and Kal-El. Would have preferred to develop that more for the sequel.

I feel the total opposite. Goyer and Snyder better stay on for the sequel, or I'll be done with the series. Those two gave me a Superman film I've waited for so long to finally get and I wouldn't want it to be ruined for a sequel.

If the two are returning, I hope Goyer's dialogue improves, (particularly in the more-so "comedic" lines), and hopefully Snyder can dial down the length of the action scenes a bit. The visual style he chose though was awesome.
