I have to be honest. This was the last superhero film this year that I was expecting to end up being the best superhero film of the year. And, in my opinion, it was just that (at least so far; Kick-Ass 2 and Thor: TDW are not out yet).

It is getting a bit ridiculous the amount of big movies being released of a summer now, as you said XM they have no time to breathe or even for WOM to kick in. By the time WOM does kick the movies have lost most of their cinema screens as 2/3/4 movies are coming out every weekend.

Yeah, me too. The set pieces were better as well.

Think I agree with your thread so far. Wolverine has been my favorite comic flick of the year.

I wasn't talking about "Best 2014 superhero film". I haven't created a thread for that. I was referring to my threads about upcoming X-Men movies.

After seeing it a few times now, it holds up quite well under repeat viewing. I still am in the camp that declares The Wolverine the best of the year. Thor has a serious shot at the title but he will be be taking it from Wolverine if it happens.

Again they have all been very close this year, its hard to pick a stand out best, but MOS would take it for me, they have all been good, and TW will stand up to repeat viewings more than IM3 for sure, and possibly MOS as well.

KA2 is getting average reviews, though I was never expecting much from that. Thor has a great shot at being the best though, the trailers have been great.

The thing is I never really class KA as a CBM. I know it IS based on a comic book but because its more a parody of comic book films and not serious I class it more as a comedy. The first was a damn good one, but I don't compare it to things like Avengers or TDK. I know there is no real reason I shouldn't but in my mind I never really compare it against those and wouldnt consider it as CBM material even though that's what its subject matter is!! Just my odd logic, but then it sounds like KA2 doesn't live up to its predecessor anyway so its a mute point really anyway.

I usually don't pay attention to CBM like Kick Ass. Like I'll watch them on HBO or buy them in home media and if its really good, I'll watch it on theater. But I don't pay attention to them unlike with the live action films from Marvel/DC.

Kick-Ass is def a CMB. Sure it's parody of superheroes but it's still a comic about superheroes even if they have no powers. I also count Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Sin City as CBM. I would even count Preacher as one if they ever made it :/

Yep, I'm not really grabbed by Kick-Ass 2. I don't think I will go to see it at the cinema.

My two favourites this year have been The Wolverine (which surprised me, as I feel the character is so overexposed and i thought i would be fatigued with yet more Wolverine on screen) and Man of Steel (though it was flawed and too many skyscrapers were destroyed!).

So my favourite is definitely The Wolverine. Then Man of Steel.

I really didn't like Iron Man 3 and I'm stunned the mainstream critics loved it and that it made so much money.

But Disney/Marvel marketing is red hot. At work, we're already getting sent special features and material for the Blu-ray release. If only Fox was such a promotional powerhouse.

As for the Thor sequel, I'm not bothered at the moment. I'll see how I feel nearer the time it's released.

The Wolverine was much better than I expected. They nailed it pretty well this time. That being said MOS is my favorite so far this year. Thor has a small chance to unseat it but it would have to really shine.

It's not hate. It's indifference.

Partly because there are so many films released that some of them are going to fall by the wayside. There's just too much going on to maintain a constant feeling of 'must rush to see that.'

And partly it didn't look like it was offering anything new - just more of what was in the first film and that will no longer seem fresh. Hit-Girl was great the first time with the swords and the cursing, but we know her thing now.

Oh yeah I know it is, just I forget sometimes its actually based on a comic book which is a sort of parody of other comic books.

I shall be seeing it this weekend and will then be able to give my updated list of CBM's this year, I'm very interested to see it now since the majority of reviews seem to pretty much pan it universally. I didnt really expect it to top the first one anyway as I said, but it seems to be getting a mauling that I feared TW would suffer. Both seem to have a parallel of being the reverse of what came before them.

I kinda knew that the movie would most likely not be as good as the original, judging from the trailer. It kinda looked like a TV mvie and it seems to be missing the energetic feel of the first KA. But i still wanna see it regardless. Loved the first KA!

Also might be worth mentioning, the second volume of KA comics was also...not as good as the first one.

Yeah, it''s def not as good as the first. But that's obvious from the source material like you said. I thought the movie was hilarious fun and enjoyed it more then the comic. Wished there was a better ending battle and more Hit-Girl comic in there though.

Probably like a 7.5 maybe an 8. I had a good time. I think people who liked the first will enjoy it. It's definitely not as good as the first and theres some issues, but I was laughing most the time and entertained through out. All the actors gave it their all and that showed alot, made me enjoy more then the KA2 comic. Thought Wadlow did a good job with adapting the script. It was better then I thought it would be.

Feel the same, KA2 will most likely wait for Blu, maybe Thor 2 aswell.
