Default The Grassy Knoll

Rumor/Spoiler (I guess)

Hearing rumor that the Kennedy Assasination will be the past catalyst that will lead to Trask Industries becoming a powerhouse and creating the Sentinals and the inhibitor collar.

So it was Magneto who killed Kennedy using the magic bullet from the grassy gnoll... hmm.....

Now that's in 1963, 10 years before when DOFP is supposed to take place.

Does this idea make sense?

Wasn't it Vaughn that said he wanted to do that with the sequel? Who knows

Yeah I really hope they'd have the decency to NOT do something like that, even if it's just something mentioned. It's a novel idea but it's also grotesque and wrong on so many levels.

Read it somewhere recently, as if it's a recent rumor.

I agree, would be a bit tasteless.

If that was what caused the DOFP future, then Logan would be traveling back to 1963, not 1973.

Hmmm well The Wolverine did start with the bombing of Nagasaki so maybe they want to link it to real world events in DoFP too.

Working JFK's assassination into fiction isn't something we haven't seen before. Were people really this up in arms about it when they hinted that The Comedian assassinated Kennedy in the opening credits of Watchmen?

Most of what the public knows about the JFK assassination is fiction anyways.

I would prefer they avoid it, as it has been done before: Watchmen, and recently, 11/22/63.

Precisely and the original xmen film showed a holocaust scene.

I personally don't have a problem with it but maybe that's because I'm not an American and the effects aren't as powerful if you're not from America. I can live without seeing the scene but I still think it would have been awesome

Here are some links to where I read that the story will start with Magneto controlling the magic bullet that killed Kennedy:

http://xmenmovies.wikia.com/wiki/X-M...of_Future_Past

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_Days_of_Future_Past

But in all of these it is Vaughn who is talking about this idea. Maybe they won't use it.

I know someone above said that it won't be because they go back to 1973, but you need to remember that it is in 1973 that the Sentinals Mark I are released. That seems to be the main issue they will be trying to stop. I would agree with you that it should be the catalyst that causes the hysteria that leads to the Sentinals that they should stop, but it doesn't appear that that is the case, based on the Trask timeline.

The catalyst can't be in 1973 if the Sentinals are being released in 1973. Obviously there would need to be some time between the cause and the effect. The effect is Trask and his Sintinals. So, what is the cause?

Will it be an assassination, like in the comic? And if so, who will be assassinated? Will it be the President? And if so, wouldn't Kennedy make sense since legislature, funding and developement on Sentinals would take some time?

I've always thought this was a cool idea. I don't think it would be tasteless because this is going to be a PG-13 movie. JFK's head wouldn't explode like in Scanners with the Misfits' "Bullet" playing in the background. The Comedian was the Second Shooter in Watchmen and that was completely fine. You don't even see the shot, you're just told visually that he shot him.I've seen the Zapruder film so many times that the real thing doesn't even phase me any more.

Yeah, I think it would be pretty cool but I doubt they'll do it.

It's not tasteless. Real events have been mixed in with fictional stories for a very very long time.

Think it's all on how they do it. Imagine they has Mystique up in the book depository at the window with a gun, with a knocked out man on on the floor (obviously Oswald) and then showed Magneto at the Grasy Knoll using his powers to create a metallic "bullet". They could then show the precession coming down the street, and maybe even have Trask there, watching the President coming. Back to Magneto who uses his powers to send the "bullet" flying. Never need to show what happens to the President, just the background noise, commotion, and possibly Trask affected in some way, either being hurt, being knocked over, etc. Someone needs to see Magneto do this so it can cause the hysteria. Maybe it's Trask!

So, went and saw Robocop yesterday and got to watch the X-Men Days of Future Past trailer.

So, much within that trailer seems to support this situation (the Kennedy Assassination) being in the movie, though it appears as though Magneto was trying to stop the bullet, and it was Mystique that fired the bullet and using her powers framed Oswald.

From something I recently read there is a little girl that sees Magneto "controlling" the bullet, which leads to his arrest (be interesting to see how they were able to arrest him).

Probably because that information was made available by the Bent Bullet viral marketing campaign paid for and approved by, you know, the studio.

Isn't this basically confirmed as true thanks to the Bent Bullet site? Don't see how its tasteless either, its using real world events in the X-Men canon. But then I'm not American, so I dunno how much you guys are affected by the event etc

That aside, Mystique/Magneto killing Kennedy makes perfect sense off the back of First Class. It was him that was in command during the Missile Crisis, so presumably he had some say in the order to fire on the beach, and ultimately, Charles' injury. They'd both want some sort of vengeance. I like the idea, and its a great catalyst
