A "the end of Birthright" esque scene seems very possible now indeed. That's definitely Jor-El. If they do it, I really hope Lara is there too.

The flare appears to be moving toward the earth, with Superman chasing it.

It's awesome that this one little tiny clip has sparked such a debate. The fact that this is even a possibility of being a scene with Jor-El looking through some sort of portal/wormhole at Kal-El is just insane. I like the risks Snyder and company seem to be taking.

Kudos to them for being 45 days out from the movie and us being clueless about so much of the movie.

I guess. I should probably get around to reading Birthright.

The Birthright bit would be emotional and beyond awesome. If that's what it is, bless Goyer for actually being a comic book reader. The Jesus pose... maybe he's doing the same listening exercise he's doing in the water (if that's what he's doing there).

So it's either:

1. Something similar to the Birthright ending

2. Superman hallucinating in the Black Zero

Considering that shot of Supes reaching out from the skulls...

Based on what we know and have heard about black zero, the supes in the skulls images in the con footage, I believe this is a good possibility.

it could be that the scene with the floating superman is a hallucination by him while in black zero. maybe that is jor-el in the shot, and they have had a conversation, and jor-el calms him and gives him the mental courage to escape, but its all in superman's mind.
Maybe its his mind way of fighting back against black zero.

I believe the scene with him blasting toward earth is real and happens once he escapes BZ..

What's the risk?

Well, if that is Jor-EL, maybe the tiny bit of something on the left corner is Lara

I bought my copy on Monday. After months of casually searching for a copy of the trade paperback, a collected set of the original issues showed up in my local comic book store the day I finished my last university exam. It was an excellent little surprise graduation present.

The thing with the Birthright ending is that I'm somewhat torn about it. I think as an idea it takes away some of the poetic quality of Jor-El and Lara dying with the hope that their son has made it. At the same time, the execution in the book was so emotional and brilliant, one couldn't help but love it. So if they did it in MoS, I really hope they nailed it. It's a concept that, if it doesn't have that impact, will quite easily feel cheap.

I bet the lens flare that appears to be moving toward Earth is Lois' escape pod from Black Zero.
