I don't get how Iron man villains are so misused? Was the final battle cool? Yes. Was Kingsley awesome all around? Yes. Was the complexity of the villain situation needed, no.

I know what they were going for but it just seemed underwhelming to me.

The Twist felt like Marvel's version of Ra's Al Ghul from "Begins". I get why they did it in the context of the story since Killian was their from the beginning in 1999 and in many ways he orchestrated and masterminded of The Ten Rings organization leading back to Iron Man plus his connection with Stark. However I fell that Kingsley guise as The Mandarin was much more effective.

Eh, it's not really like Begins, it's just a high profile switcheroo plot device that's been used in dozens of films.

LOL, have fun sitting in the corner by yourself. Doesnt look like these films are slowing down at all. Ironman 3 is on a freaking tear at the box office.

Overall it was pretty damn good, i was only disappointed that i wont get to see more of Kingsly's "Mandarin". It was a really cool take on the character and imo was right up there with Ledger and Hardy performance wise. Ben Kingsly is just fantastic.

No, they aren't slowing down. You're right about that. Ceased to be aimed at getting me to like them? That they're doing, too.

Hate.

I'm mostly on the side of Kedrell. Though I won't be giving up based on one film with all its bad ideas. If Thor 2 is terrible on the other hand... Then we'll talk.

^Glad to know I'm not alone then. Like he said, IM3 is going to be a very dividing movie and they had to know that as soon as they read the script. The question is, why would any studio actively want to make a dividing movie? Seems dumb to me.

Maybe they know by now that 90% of the audience has no attachment to the comic counterpart or that they have no idea who he really is. Sure it can divide fanboys but as long as the general audience don't mind, they're okay with it.

I'm just blowing off steam. I probably won't give up quite so easily.....yet.

Boy that twist pissed me off. Pissed me off like Deus Ex MaJoker and AngHulk pissed me off.

The scary thing is, Thor 2 is post production, Cap 2 is mid-production. What if they are taking the same liberties with those films?

It works. The point of it was that anyone can be the Mandarin, it's a symbol, a title. I do wish they would have been able to go more into depth with the character though. Eh...no point in crying over it, it's not what we got. And I understand why they did it, it was a great way to do something different, for the GA. But for us comic fans, who are tolerant of just having a good straight up villain, it IS a bit of a disappoint not to be able to see the Mandarin fully realized.

I don't think this is going to be a standard. They had a very specific reason for why they did this with the Mandarin, and it was because there was really no definitive and iconic take on the character, therefore they had the leeway to do whatever they wanted with him. This is different for Malekith and definitely Winter Soldier.

I'd probably be oblivious in those cases since I know little to nothing of Thor or Cap lore.

Hated it.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Loved Kingsley's work as the role too much to get the rug pulled out from underneath him like that. Really wanted to see the classic aesthetic Mandarin vs Iron Man. The set up is tired and cliche, sure. But idc. They spent 2 movies yakking about how Mandarin would never work in the established world, then had Avengers which gave them the ability to pull it off and ran the other way anyway.

I saw 2 viewings tonight (9pm and then 12am) and it didn't bother me as much the 2nd time and Killian was stronger as a villain the 2nd go around knowing the truth. But the initial viewing was very.... i guess the word is "disheartening" to me. Overall a strong and enjoyable movie. But this just continues to "urk" me.

Ah well. Man of Steel mode initiated.

I hated it. They took a huge crap on The Mandarin.
Killian created the 10 Rings organization.
Killian was manipulating the world powers for his benefit
Killian created the name and persona 'The Mandarin' and was the brain behind him just like Tony Stark created the name and persona of 'Iron Man' and was the brain behind him. Killian controlled 'Mandarin' just like Tony controlled his Iron Man suit during the plane sequence. If Killian isn't The Mandarin, then most of this film, Tony wasn't Iron Man. AND thats the EXACT point of his final line: 'I am The Mandarin'. Its a direct parallel to the ending of Iron Man 1' I am Iron Man'. Killian wanted to seperate himself from the 'face of evil' he created, but he accepted that that was who he was all along. And like I said earlier, Pearce was very much like the Mandarin from the comics.

Like in the video posted, did you ever feel/believe that Killian was The Mandarin when he said that?
Answer, no. It was like Harvey Dent saying he was Batman.

Wow, back to back. If you actually hated the movie that would've been a bummer if tickets were in advance.

I was quite disappointed that we didn't get to see Iron Man fight Ben Kingsley's Mandarin, especially as the trailers really hyped the Mandarin up and I'd been waiting to see it since the first film. I thought the twist was hilarious, but seemed a bit insulting to what I've always viewed as Iron man's arch-enemy, especially as all of his attributes were transplanted into Killian (who I honestly expected to turn into Fing-Fang-Foom at the end, he got so intense and over-the-top).

I liked the film and what they did, but felt I would've been just as happy, if not more so, if the Mandarin had been the Mandarin and had been manipulating Killian, rather than the other way around (but I guess that manipulating corporate-types is a bit of a cliche these days). I dunno; I loved watching the Iron Man animated series, where Iron Man/Mandarin fights were a big thing, and I felt like Iron Man Three (what was up with spelling the 3 out anyway?) missed out a bit there.

I felt like he was the Mandarin.. I look at it like this, Killain was the attituide, skills, and atheltic type (physical threat) as well as the tattoos, and Kingsley was the clothing looks and intimidation side (mind games with Tony and not letting him have any peace after Avengers events)

Answer for me: Hell Yes. Pearce was a great Mandarin and he was pretty much exactly what Mandarin is in the modern comics minus the rings.
