This is one of the most unfair observations I've seen lately. If I were to follow with an equally obtuse statement it would be that, Avengers and Disney owe their financial success entirely to the work and gamble paramount took early on.

I hope people don't make similar grandiose statements about how much Better StarWars does at Disney than it did during the 70's.

Speaking of Disney, do people here think the failings of John Carter and Tron 3 are above the faults of the marketing? Just seems after Joss Whedon, there has been alot of revisionist history going around.

I agree that Disney is not always great at marketing. Prince Caspian would be another to add to that list. However I really think Paramount dropped the ball with Star Trek.

You can't let a director sit on a budding franchise. I remember after the 09 film, how excited I was that the franchise was back. Now it seems like they are starting from scratch. If the 09 film performed like STID just did, we would all be happy. The problem is they lost their audience and this will be a lower attended film than the 09, film.

It didn't help that Abram's involvement with Star Wars stole a bit of STID's thunder.

Paramount was so gosh darn pretty a few year ago, then a few things changed. Watching the star trek property go from one thing to another(director less et all), is pretty sad.

Fanboys be damned but Michael Bay is a god send to that studio at the moment.

As someone who's quite aware of JJ's career over the years I'm not at all surprised. He has been known to lose interest on his latest project and then bails on it for another one, and soon thereafter said project begins to suffer misfortune.

Sounds like just about every TV project he gets involved in.

Well, Abrams is a self-confessed Star Wars junkie, so I think his involvement with the new Star Wars trilogy may be a bit different than his past projects. Besides, all he needs to do is to deliver an amazing Episode 7, and if he leaves they can always hand the rein over to another director; it worked perfectly with the Original Trilogy, after all.

Yeah, and he worked his magic on Star Trek so that the franchise is in great shape for whoever takes over. Episode VII is key in getting Star Wars back to the no.1 status it enjoyed all these years.

This weekend is where the movie is gonna start to slow down. Star Trek will probably take the number 1 spot. Then this might drop to fourth or fifth place next week with Fast 6 and Hangover 3 coming out. Epic month at the movies I say lol!

For the record, Star Trek was a great film. Certainly near the top for that franchise.
Eh, I'm not sure if I buy that. Yes, there is fanbase rivalry, and this certainly became a factor when Avengers was released. . . but by and large the tenor of the outrage for IM3 sounds different for me. I think it actually is legitimate Marvel fans going purist, this time.

There's that group, of course. The purist. But this being the Hype, and me being a member for quite a while now, i tend to agree with what Elmariachi said.

As do I.
A lot of us here, self included, are fans of almost all the franchises, but there are definitely cheerleaders for one studio or director or franchise over the others. And those of us who are long-time Iron Man, Avengers, and Marvel Studios fans in this particular forum have been posting here for years. I have yet to see any of these "regulars" post anything negative about IM3, while almost all of the complaints have been from posters with usernames and avatars that clearly reflect a bias towards the Bat-films and the Spidey-films.

All I can do is just wonder: jealous much? /smh

Adjusted for inflation both the first Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 are well over a billion. Not to mention no 3D.

If we are going to bring inflation into the discussion, it will open a new can of worms.

I'm just saying it's really not fair to say Spider-Man has never grossed over a billion because in actuality the first Spider-Man film is still more of a success than Iron Man 3 and about on par with Avengers in terms of success domestically.

Why would I need to deal with it when I don't care?

Not to mention it's a factually incorrect statement.

I'm pretty sure I said Iron Man is a "big dog" not THE big dog, so that doesn't make me like them at all. Saying Iron Man is a big dog is merely stating he's up there with the big leaguers like Batman and Spider-Man.

Reread my post again, I NEVER said anything about Spider-Man not grossing a billion. You guys should really take the time to read post more thoroughly and not just skim over them.

I really personally don't care who the "big Dog" is, as a life long Iron Man fan, I am just thrilled he is among them.
For whatever peoples opinion is of IM3, to me it was a very enjoyable movie and a good end to the trilogy, would be lying if I said a 4th film would not be awesome, but there are other Marvel characters that are on the horizon and just so many slots, to me seeing my childhood comic hero come to life in 3 solo and 1 team blockbuster films and be so accepted worldwide, has been a joy and great to see so many embrace one of the best superheroes in comics, IMO.
I give all sorts of credit to the other franchises, like Spider-man, Bat Man and even Blade, without there success, Iron Man would never come to screen.
