Steel doesn't count since they flushed everything Superman from it.

Too each his own. I won't debate about it but for me, it was a nightmare. And I WON'T be watching the next one.

It's better than Spider-man 3, but that's about all I can say for it. The movie for the most part is a copy cat of Rami's first film, without a lot of the heart. The one thing I can say, is I liked Garfield as Peter, better than Toby Maguire, but that's about all.

I don't think anyone's hating on The Amazing Spider-Man because it's an origin story (nor do I think anyone watched it and 'didn't realize' it was an origin story...???). Some people just genuinely don't like it...is that really that difficult to comprehend? I mean surely there's movies you don't like that plenty of other people do.

Could be, I don't visit the Spider-Man boards. But in the sections I do read, the majority of complaints are more to do with Peter Parker's characterization, among other issues. I agree that the film being an origin story doesn't in and of itself make it a bad film. Heck, I wouldn't even go so far as to call it a "bad" film. I still won't be watching it again or bothering with the sequel though.

BB, on the other hand, is nothing like Burton's Batman. The only similarity is in showing Bruce's parent's getting shot, and barely at that. TASM had all the promise of showing us "the secret origin of Spider-man" having something to do with his parents. In the end, he gets bit by a spider, Uncle Ben dies, so-on, so-forth.

Ah, how could I forget the Fantastic Four films? They were awful, though at least Chris Evans played a good Johnny Storm. He deserved better and I'm glad to see that he got better (Captain America).
Speaking of which, the 1990 Captain America movie was complete garbage. I've never seen the Corman F4 but I'd like to, just to see if it was somehow more enjoyable than the more recent bad F4 movies. The more I think about it, F4 might be one of those properties than movie studios should just give up on. Some things ARE better left to the comics. Others... Punisher: War Zone The Punisher (Lundgren) The Punishert (Jane) I still fail to understand how they managed to screw up The Punisher THREE times on film. That character, you would think, has to be one of the easiest ones to adapt. He's just a guy whose family is murdered and he's taking revenge on the criminal underworld. He doesn't even wear a mask or much of a costume. Charles Bronson made that movie about 10 times in the 70s and 80s. I don't know why they keep screwing the Punisher up. |

The most successful comic book adaptions to films are the ones that keep the basics of the character(s) in tact. These core elements are the things that made those characters successful in the first place, it really should not be a difficult thing to grasp. But no, come time to make a movie some jerk decides they can improve on it or put their own spin on it, add this, take away that, and lo and behold it stinks. I do wonder if the people who make these decisions act surprised, or just shrug and move on.

I'd personally take it well over any of the Raimi movies, and that's not to say I hated all of them(but none of them are much in the way of being my cup of tea as I find Raimi's sensibilities in and of themselves annoying).

Oh I have fond memories of myself and my friends watching and lampooning the 90's Albert Pyun Captain America film! Actually to veer off topic Pyun can slap together a good action scene or two but oh my the acting...there's a series of terminator rip off movies he made, two I have somewhere that starred a pretty masculine looking female bodybuilder that are guilty pleasures of mine he'd directed.
